Chapter Twelve
Carlos’ P.O.V
I can’t believe that they got so close to death. My brother nearly died because of these cowardly b*stards who think they can threaten us and our girls. Demitri means everything to me. He was there for me since young and when my dad died, he was the first one there, helping me deal with it all and I was there for him too when his mum died. I was and still am there when he needs me and he to me. Now there is a big chance that he may never wake up. It is killing me that I have to sit here and forever wait to see if there is any improvement.
When Demitri and I first heard of the offer from the girls’ fathers gave us we were hesitant. We didn’t give an answer for months. We both discussed it with Demitri’s dad and we decided that becoming allies with the biggest gang in Australia would be beneficial in more ways than one.
Mr Denopoulos and Mr Montez have a lot of respect in the mafia world, here in Italy they are respected too. We were sceptical as to why two fathers would offer up their daughters for arranged marriage, especially to two mafia leaders. They said it would be safer for the girls to be with two men who aren’t clueless to the illegal world; we would be able to protect them if something were to go bad. We had a hunch that they weren’t safe back where they were but we decided to see it as it comes.
I feel bad for the girls, I truly do. I would have done some damage until I found out what was going on if I were them. I want to tell them, I want them to know because at this stage, after the constant threats it would be better if they do know.
If it weren’t for that damn deal stopping us from even mentioning a clue about it to them, I would’ve already told them the second we realised the severity of the threats. You may think that how can a simple contract be such a bind? The contract isn’t the problem, it is their fathers. If either party were to breech the contract we had the authority to take over the other gang.
That is major and I’m not willing to let a couple of old men take over the gang here. Not the gang that my father help build, not the gang that is doing so well.
I walk from the cafeteria after getting my coffee. I have been so stressed lately, for obvious reasons and also the threats to the gang. I am fully in charge while Demitri is…unable and it isn’t like I can’t handle it, I can but it’s these anonymous threats we keep receiving. Our tech team is working hard on trying to locate the sender but we keep coming up with different locations that don’t link together. It is frustrating and strenuous; the fact that Demitri and Nikki had the accident just tops it off.
