My boyfriend, a hero... Hero. A funny word. Labelled to those who save others. And he was one of them. I fell asleep on the sofa only to realize I awoke in bed. "Abbey?" Andrew whispered. I froze. I turned over slowly to notice my adorable boyfriend standing over me. "Yeah," I whimpered. It hurt to speak."I'm so glad we took him in," He grinned. The words repeatedly danced through my head. How could I cope with a child when I couldn't even care for myself?
I sat up slowly and looked into his soft blue eyes and I stroked his fringe from his face, it made him smile. I peered around the corner. A child was there. "It's ok Tom, this is your new mommy," Andrew called to him. I felt whole, like I had a purpose. It was a great feeling. I pulled my blanket up to hide the scar that protruded from my vest top. "Hi mommy!" He waved nervously. "Come here, so I can see you properly," I smiled. He propped himself up onto my bed and he gently hugged me. "Sorry if I hugged you too tightly I know you hurt still," Tom looked at me with huge eyes. His eyes reminded me of Andy's. "You didn't," I smiled. Maybe I could do this after all.
I stayed up all night filling paper work for Tom. It was worth it in the end. He was amazing, I felt a connection that a mother would have with her son. The spare room had now been refurbished, a blue paint was washed onto the walls, a bed was placed in, a television and some toys. He was part of the family and I couldn't be happier.
Andy was like a role model to him. You would always hear them laughing and playing down stairs. I would sit down in the sitting room with them on a night time and hug into Andy while Tom would play with his toys, he was so grateful for the toys we gave him, even though they probably weren't what he was used to wherever he lived before.
I ordered some food from our favorite restaurant as a surprise and got us our favorite.... Curry! I had a huge craving for Chicken Korma lately and I have no idea why. I plated up and shouted for them, "Boys the tea is ready!" In an instance two sets of footsteps came racing through the house into the kitchen. We all sat around the wooden table and talked about how our day had been etc. Honestly Tom was like an angel sent from heaven, he gave me a purpose.
It was hard in the beginning adjusting to the life of being his "Mother" but I enjoyed it, he accompanied me while Andy went away on tour with the other guys, we hadn't introduced Tom to the other guy's but he was excited to learn his new "Dad" was in a band and got to travel all over the world. I wondered how they would be when they eventually met him.
