I stared down at myself, now wearing the clothes Temari gave me. The outfit consisted of a white shirt, grey skirt, white stockings, and brown boots. It was plain and simple, which I was grateful for.

I adverted my eyes to the table that stood beside the hospital bed. There sat a few items that I was carrying with me. A small, butterfly hair pin, a charm bracelet, a slightly torn notepad, and a seashell.

It wasn't much, but those items held a meaning that I no longer understand. I scoffed,"Junk..." I took the bag that held the clothes I was now wearing, and roughly shoved the items inside of it. There was also extra clothes in the bag, courtesy of Temari.

I swung the small bag over my shoulder, and my attention went over to the door. A knock could be heard on the other side, and I wasn't in the rush to open it.

When I finally did open it, I was met with Temari who looked down at me. She smirked, satisfied with how the outfit looked on me,"Cute."

I glared at her, and said coldly,"Let's just go."

She nodded and we made our way out of the hospital, and onto the streets of Suna.

"You'll have to go to the Academy tomorrow to take a few test." She stated after a long moment of silence.

"Why?" I asked, shoving my hands into my pockets.

"Your age group will be joining the academy next week."She explained,"These exams are going test you on how much you guys know. To see what level you're at basically."

"So, why am I joining?" I questioned."I thought becoming a ninja was a choice."

"Gaara thought it would do you good." She answered."Plus, do you really think that we're convinced that you don't have atleast some kind of skill? Maybe not enough to take down a Genin, but a kid in the academy won't be too hard."

What is he my father? What's with the making choices for me all the time.... It's none of his concern what I do.

I rolled my pale grey eyes,"What's the point anyways? Becoming a Shinobi? Sounds like a waste of time to me..."

"You'll understand some day.... It's alot of hard work, but it's worth it if it means you get to protect those you love."

I didn't respond. All of it still just sounded like a big waste to me.

Protect the ones you love? But at  what cause? You have to learn that no matter how hard you try the ones that you love will always end up hurting you the most.

Maybe not intentionally, but it's better to save yourself from the pain that is certain to come.

"Here we are." We stopped in front of a small building.

"I can't believe you guys are making me do this." I said, glaring at the front door of the orphanage.

She looked down at me, and rose a brow,"You don't really care, do you?"

I shrugged,"Not like I have anything better to do."

She knelt down to my height, and stared into my emotionless eyes. "Sometimes it's better to accept those who're around you. The people you come to meet and trust will be there to help."

I gave her a confused look,"Why are you telling me this? Why would I need help?"

"Just a few words of advice." Was her vague response. She stood up. "Try to make friends."

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. Not likely....

She tapped the door with her knuckles, and it opened to reveal a woman. She seemed to be in her late thirties, and was smiling like there was no tomorrow. "Oh, hello there! You must be little Ruri. Lord Kazekage has told me all about you." She chirped.

I looked up at Temari, and gave her a 'are you serious?' look. They don't really trust this lady with children, do they? She seems a bit crazy if you asked me.

"I'm Shizuko!" She exclaimed brightly. How ironic, cosidering that means 'quiet child'."You'll love it here. Very soon you'll have a loving family, and make many friends...." I zoned out on her constant blabbering.

Is that all these people can ever talk about?! Family, friends, trust, love.... All of that is overrated.

Temari, shoved me forward. I glared back at her and entered the three-story building. "You're room is on the second floor, the door all the way at the end of the hall."

I nodded curtly, and started to ascend the stares, not bothering to say goodbye to Temari.

With every step there was a soft creek. My hand slid upwards on the railing as I made my way, until I stopped on the second floor.

As I walked through the hall, there were kids running around laughing, and playing. Some of the older children stopped to stare at me in curiosity. Others were intimidated by my stare, and some looked like they weren't one bit please with the new arrival.

When, I reached my door, I immediately went in, starting to get uncomfortable with all the stares. I shut, and locked the door, sliding down to the floor. I threw my bag onto the bed that wasn't too far from where I sat.

My arms hugged my legs close to my chest, and I closed my eyes shut. I let out a long, exasperated sigh, and rested my head on my knees.

I stayed there for a while.... Just for the rest of the day.... And night.

Though I never slept, just sat there awake, and listened to all of the children outside enter there rooms to sleep. Then I listened to nothing but silence, a peaceful, yet lonley silence....  I was tired of that sound.... I was tired in general.... But I just sat awake the whole time.

Kankuro's POV

"So are you really going to put up with this?" I asked my brother who was doing paper work on his desk. "The council has gone too far. A legacy, Gaara? You're not even married!"

He let out a sigh,"I know.... And out of all children they want to choose Ruri."

"Apparently she took her Acadamey exam a week ago she scored highest. Well along with a kid named Yoshi Ito." Temari stated.

"So she'll be entering the Acadamey tomorrow...." Gaara mused.

Temari spoke up,"I think this will be good for you and her."

"You're kidding." I said, earning a glare from her.

"Like Kankuro said you're not even married, Gaara. And we already know how that'll go..." She explained, placing a hand on her hip. "That kid needs help. And I can tell that you want to help her. She reminds you of yourself before you chose to change."

He put his pencil down to look up at our sister as she continued, "She could help you too, Gaara. Everyone around you has had someone to call theirs weather it is a lover or a child. We're not blind..... This little girl needs you just as much as you need her. She can fill that void in your life. You need to help her, because right now... she's only sinking into darkness."

"Okay then...." He said, a emotion came and left his light green eyes quickly."I will make it my job to take care of, and help Ruri.... I will help her find her light."

"You better know what you're doing." I sighed then smirked, "Well I guess I'll have a little chat with the kid tomorrow."

So there you have it folks! I finally got to update! So, what do you think? Ruri is going to be probably pissed off- well more than usual. Anyways hope you enjoyed reading! I'll update very soon again!
