Gaara looked down at me as I looked up at him."She did quite a number on you." He referred to the small bruises, and scratches on my skin."I wish I could've faught back..." I growled, clenching my fist."But all I could do was just run and hide...."
He smiled sadly at me, placing a hand on my shoulder,"You just know how to make everyone forget that you're still just a child..."
I thought for a moment, can I even call myself that anymore? Children don't have to constantly face disappointment and danger. They don't have to fight for themselves and rely on only themselves. They have someone to be there for them, someone to make the nightmares go away, and place an umbrella over your head to protect you from the rain that won't ever stop.
They can trust others without thinking that they'll just be abandoned like the last time. They can relax, and enjoy growing up... They can be happy, and laugh, and love...
"I think I've forgotten how to be one..." I shook my head, and he turned around and got down on one knee, his back facing me. I rose a brow at the red head, and he merely smiled.
"C'mon, you can barley stand without feeling exhausted right now." He said, and with that I hesitantly wrapped my arms around his neck, and allowed him to hoist me up onto his back."One perk about being a child is that you're small enough to be carried on someones back at anytime, especially when you're tired."
He began to walk and then said,"There was a small power that was sense for a few quick seconds, but it was there, and it was strong. A Hyuuga from the Leaf comfired that the power was coming from you." And right away I knew what he was talking about.
"Yeah.... It did..." I confirmed it myself. "It's hard to explain.... But I can't control it. It just comes surprisingly.... Sometimes when I need it the most, or when my emotions get the best of me.
Who else was with you searching for me?""Kankuro, Baki, the Hyuuga who goes by Neji, and Sasuke." He imformed me, slightly surprised that I told him about the small power. He didn't expect me to answer quickly, or be willing to talk about it. I've always been like that.
When I was younger than I am now, I couldn't speak to anyone, now I mostly distance myself during a conversation or reply in a defensive matter."That woman couldn't have made it too far because they're still out there. Who is she anyways?"
"Her name is Mayumi." I answered taking a deep breath,"The reason why she attacked me is complicated."
"Well she won't be hurting you again, you can count on that." He assured me.
I was glad to hear that, although I can't get the reason for her assaulting me in the first place out of my mind. And Nobi, the wolf, wouldn't leave my thoughts either."Who was the 'idiot' you talked about?" I asked him,"The one who helped you..."
"It was Naruto." I stared at him in disbelief, and he chuckled at my reaction."Yes, shocking isn't it? But he still saved me from myself. He taught me that those that are close to you, your friends will always be there for you. They're the ones you can trust. The ones you have to protect..."
"I use to have someone to protect.." I began, but suddenly stopped.
"Gaara..." I whispered, my grip on his shirt tightening as I felt an unwanted and familiar presence. He nodded curtly, signaling that he knew someone was watching us.
