Look At The Sky

A stack of books stood beside me, while one layed opened in my lap. I sat quietly underneath a table in the village's library. This was one of the only places I could be in peace without anything or anybody disrputing me.

Reading isn't something that I love, nor is it something that I hate. It is just something that allowed time to seem like it was going by faster.

"Beehive!" A very familiar, and unwanted voice yelled. A chorus of 'shhs' followed after it. I let out a sigh.... There goes my peace. I crawled out from underneath the table and glared at the blonde haired boy who now stood in front of me.

"What do you want?" I hissed, taking out the books from their place under the table and on top of it instead.

"Kankuro and Lord Kazekage sent me." He imformed me as I placed the books back into their respective spots in the shelves.

"What for?" I rose a brow, crossing my arms in annoyance.

"Well you've been cooped up in here all day. They want me to get you out of here." He explained. Just when I thought this library would be my sanctuary away from the world..."So what do you want to do?"

I ignore his question, and started exiting the library."Hey! Wait up!" He shouted. When we were finally outside his footsteps were able to become in synch with mine.

"This is so stupid." I growled, "They didn't have to send you to come 'hang out' with me."

"Well I am sort of your only friend." He said, causing me to glare at him. Yoshi held his hands up in defense,"Okay! Okay... We're not friends. Damn.." Though I can see him pathetically cross his fingers. Idiot...

"Oh so things do go through to that thick skull of yours." I rolled my grey eyes, crossing my arms once again. I'll just let him think what he wants to think.

"I got an idea!" He brushed off my snarky comment."We should have a race!"

"What?" I questioned, slightly confused.

"Y'know we can have a race to your house. No one has ever beaten me before!" He boasted, running in place."I bet that even the 'Great Beehive' can't beat me!"

"Whatever. If this will get those two off my back." I sighed, refering to Kankuro and Gaara. Temari, unfortunatley went back to her son and husband in the Leaf. It was unfortunate to me because she was the one I disliked the least.

"Okay, on my count." Yoshi announced."On your mark, get set-" He never got to finsish because of me pushing him to the ground interrupted him.

I began to run fast, heading towards the house. The house I now lived in with Gaara. It was quiet and boring. But mostly lonley considering he was ussually working. It would never be home, not that I cared.

Kankuro lived in his own house with his wife, Matsuri. I know, the poor woman really has to deal with that.

Yoshi was suprisingly right behind me. The kid is as fast as he made it out to be. I don't know why, but I wanted to beat him. I wanted to run into the house and shout, 'I win!' like a kid. But something inside of me wouldn't  allow me to do so.

As the house was starting to come more into view, I pushed myself a little more. I was sure that I was going to win until Yoshi tripped, taking me down with him. We slid on the sand, coming to a stop when we both ended up hitting the front porch.

We layed side by side, breathing heavily as we both sat up. I got up, dusting my skirt off."I won!" He yelled making me shake my head.

"No you didn't. It was a draw." I stated, much to his dismay. He got up aswell and stuck his tongue out at me. I rolled my eyes at his childish actions and sat on the porch. He took a seat beside me, softly swinging his feet.

"I would've won if you hadn't had cheated."He shot, playfully glaring my way.

"Whatever. Either way I would've won, but you're such a clutz." I shot back. He started laughing, and I just stared at him in great bewilderment.

I sat on the roof, staring down at the ground. Ussually I spent the night in my room, either taking an hour long nap, or reading. But today I wanted some fresh air for once. My room was just so...

"What're you doing up here, it's late?" A voice asked gently. I turned around to see Gaara.

I turned my gaze back to the ground,"I could ask you the same."

"Mind if I take a seat?" He asked, and I merely shrugged my shoulders. Who am I to tell him what he can or can't do? I don't really care for that matter.

"You know.... most people would look up at the sky." He noted. This time I looked at him. He stared at the stars through green eyes, admiring their light.

"Yeah..." I nodded,"But my world is down."

I watched the empy streets, hugging my arms around my knees. I felt uncomfortable, especially around people. Just so out of place. But it seemed worst with Gaara.

Everytime he was around to stare at me through warm eyes, I felt like I was fighting myself in my mind. Fighting the memories, the past, from resurfacing.

"Now I must disagree with you on that." He said, causing my eyes to widen sligthly."I find you in both places."

"What do you mean?" I asked, peering at him through curious eyes.

"Your world, reality may be down. But you yourself, your heart and mind is more like the sky than you think." He explained, but his explanation was vague to me.

I furrowed my brows in confusion. He smiled softy, and placed his palm underneath my chin, tilting my head up slightly to look up at the sky. It was covered in so much... Light.

"Now what happens when you take those stars away?" He questioned. Where was he getting at with all of this?

".... Darkness." I answered, and he nodded to signify that I was correct.

"Right now that would be your world." He said, and I looked at him. He wasn't wrong."But it isn't."

"How?" I became more interested."It feels like it is..."

"That's why the stars are there. You may be in that patch of darkness but there is light to guide you." He said, and I tilted my head to the side."As long as they are there, they won't allow you to fully shut your eyes. It's up to you if you want to stay in that darkeness or allow those stars to guide you out. Just remember the sky will always have stars, a moon, and a sun even when you can't see them."

I stare up at the sky for a moment longer. It all seems so hopeful... What if that star just..... Dies out on you? Then what? You'll both just be nothing but darkness, only you find yourself more stuck than before. Why rely on another 'star'? I looked down again, gritted my teeth, and clenched my fist.

"Keep your head up, Ruri." He said, standing up. I looked up at the red head."Who knows, one day you might even see a rainbow."

With that he smiled warmly at me and left me in a confused state. I stared up at the sky, narrowing my eyes. Then I sighed, wishing that it'd be alot more easier. But it isn't, so there's no point in hoping for such an impossible thing.

A rainbow, huh? It doesen't even rain here and he's telling me that one day I could?! I swear he's unbelieveable... I hate the Desert. I'm so out of place here. No rain. Even worst, no snow. It's just hot and beige.

But it does has it's perks. It makes it easier to get away and forget... If it weren't for certain people here...

I'm back! Sorry for the very lat update and all, but I got it up... So yay! Anyways thanks for reading, and I really hope that you like it!
