I sat at the kitchen table, watching the red head at work. His sand would occasionally whirl around the kitchen as he mixed contents in a bowl."Are you sure you don't need any help?" I asked him."I'm sure." He nodded,"You just sit and relax." I couldn't help but smirk as he would constantly look at a page in some cook book. It was as if he was so paranoid in doing something wrong that he would read the same step more than three times.
"I've never seen anyone use sand as a baking equipment." I stated, and he adverted his focus from the bowl to me this time.
"I bet you've never seen a ninja bake before then." He countered.
"You're right." I nodded."I haven't."
He smiled, shaking his head as he continued with his mixing. It felt nice. To have someone make an effort just to make you feel even the slightest bit happy. There was finally someone around that could try and make you feel like your more than just a little piece of nothingness.
He finally placed his mixture in the oven and sat in front of me."That was harder than doing a stealth mission." That was Gaara's way of describing the task of baking a cake. It was obvious that he was no baker, but he didn't have to be one in order to follow a few instructions in a book. The only thing that it took was patience and care. Two things that Gaara made evident that he most definitely has.
"Thanks." I said,"You really don't have to do all of-"
"Yes I do." He was quick to cut me off."There's some things in life that you just have to do, even if things are prone to get tough."

When the cake was finished, Gaara placed exactly nine candles on top of it. Right when he was about to light them, there was an urgent knock on the door. A sigh escaped his lips as if he knew who it was. I followed him when he got up to get the door.
"Lord Kazekage!" Some ninja shouted,"We need you immediately, it's an emergency!"
He looked back at me apologetically, a guilty expression taking over his face.
"Give me a moment. I'll be right there." The man nodded, waving politely behind him to me before leaving. "Ru...I'm sorry."I shook my head,"Don't worry. Go, I'll be fine." I assured him,"Besides you tried more than anyone has ever tried for me in a long time."
He smiled placing a hand on top of my head,"As soon as I get back we'll blow out those candles." That was funny to hear. So funny that I couldn't but let out a small laugh. He was so worried about the cake, and I really couldn't understand why.
"You're laughing." He noted,"I guess something went right today."
I shot him a playful glare before brushing his hand of my head."Alright you can go now." I said.
"I'm going." He rolled his eyes, but still held an amused look. Then he left to tend to whatever problem had brewed up while he was gone.
***********
"Yo, Beehive!" A pebble hit my window. I walked over to it and opened it, dodging a pebble that was hurdling towards my face.
"What is it?" I asked, staring down at Yoshi who smiled his usual smile. He let go of a blue balloon, and I caught it as it ascended into the air. At the end of the ribbon was a black marker tied to it.
"Happy Birthday!" He shouted everso loudly.
"Thanks for the marker." I deadpanned, but we both knew I truly did appreciate the small, yet very meaningful gift.
"Hey, that right there is one special marker." He argued, sticking his tongue out at me.
"Oh yeah, how so?" I questioned, resting my arms on the ledge of the window.
"It's magical." He said, and I scoffed at his response."Seriously, it can transform into a mighty sword.... or bring life to what you draw." I gave him a dry look causing him to laugh awkwardly."Okay... maybe it can't do all of that, but it's my favorite marker ever! It's the one I carry around with me the most!"
"I'll cherish it forever." I smirked, placing it inside my skirt pocket.
"C'mon. Let's go for a walk." He said.
So we did, and that walk turned into us sitting on someone's roof. We didn't know who it belonged to, nor did we care, but they were oblivious of our presence.
"So how's life?" He asked, laying down to watch the clouds roll by. I shrugged, not answering the question."Hey, Beehive?"
"What?" I answered, yet most of my attention was directed to some boy trying to throw a ball over a fence not too far from us. This whole village feels like it's filled with idiots sometimes...
"Did you know your parents?" He inquired, causing my eyes to widen."Y'know before they died?"
"What kind of question is that?" I hissed at him.
"I-I mean you were placed in an orphanage.... I just thought that-" He nervously tried to explain himself.
"Yes." I said firmly, deciding that he didn't mean no harm.
"Sorry, it was a dumb question." He sat up looking away from me.
"Then why did you ask?" I inquired.
"Huh?"
"Then why did you ask the question in the first place?" I repeated.
"It's just I wanted to know...." He trailed off. Yoshi then became less tense and asked another question,"Were they happy?"
I thought about it for a moment,"I like to think they were..... but sometimes things around us would constantly ruin that happiness."
"D-Did they ever fight..... alot?" He asked, and I stared at him for quite a long time.
"Yoshi....." I said, furrowing my brows. What was going on with him? He was always so happy that you can easily forget that he was human. That he was just human. Just a kid. Things happened to him aswell. Life likes to knock down anyone, despite how happy they may seem."What's going on?"
"It doesn't matter." He got up,"I should go, it's getting late and my parents are probably worried."
I got up,"Are they really?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" He snapped.
"Sorry, it was a dumb question." I rephrased his own words."I'm not going to pry, but you need to know that I am here..."
"See you at school, Beehive." He walked off, not waiting for me to say something else.
