It was late that night when you returned home, feet aching and eyes tired. You had a lot on your mind, and needless to say, the car ride home squished between Bill and Monty was very uncomfortable for more reasons than one.
Once you were home, you headed straight to your room. As soon as the door was shut and locked, you took off your heels, throwing them carelessly to the side. You went into the bathroom and washed off all of your makeup.
Then, you stopped, looking up to meet the eyes of your reflection. You had way too much on your mind, although Bill was the only thing that you seemed to really think about.
Did he really love you? And did you really hate him? You hoped you did hate him. You wanted to hate him more than anything, and for the most part, you felt like you did. There were just things he did that made you happy, stupid things.
Because God knew Bill was stupid.
While you wanted him to just go away forever and never come back, you didn't think you wanted him to go away that badly. And you loved everything about him just as much as you hated it.
You were so confused. Why would you even have feelings for him after the way he's treated you? It was stupid. He was stupid.
Stupidly adorable.
Frustrated, you looked away from the mirror and took off your headband, placing it on the counter.
Just as you took out your pajamas, there was a knock at your door.
You opened it wide, and Monty was standing there, now cape-less and without his vampire teeth.
"Hey." You said, turning away from him and sitting on your bed.
Monty stepped in your room. "Are you okay?" He asked. "You were acting weird in the car."
"Yeah, it's all good." You said. After a moment, you stopped, looking at your hands in your lap. "Actually, no. I'm not okay."
Noticing your emotional state, Monty closed the door before sitting down next to you. "What's wrong?"
"Everything." You leaned your head on his shoulder as he put his arm around you, giving you a secure hug. "I don't know, Monty, he's terrible."
"Bill?"
"Yes. Tonight, he... We were talking and he told me he still loved me."
"What?" Monty asked, a little louder than intended.
"And then he kissed me."
"What?!" Monty stood. "Did you kiss him?"
"No. I told him not to kiss me, anyway."
"It was nonconsensual?! He could go to jail!"
"Monty!" You gave him a look mixed with desperation and anger. "I'm being serious."
He crossed his arms, looking at you with eyes saying sorry. "So he loves you and he kissed you. And you didn't kiss him. Which means you don't love him, right?"
"That's the problem." You admitted. "I don't know."
Monty sighed. "(Y/N)—"
"I know. I know what you're gonna say, okay. It's not good for me to love him because he's a terrible person. But, Monty, you don't even know him. I mean—"
"I know what he did to you." Monty said, his tone sharp like how it always was when he was serious about something. It almost made you shiver. "He hurt you. Because of that, he's a terrible person."
"But—"
"Why are you defending him?"
"I-I don't know." You said. "I'm not. I'm justifying myself."
