The trip to Gravity Falls sure was an interesting one. Before you left, you and Montgomery stocked up on snacks and music. It was a thirteen hour drive from Avalon to Gravity Falls, and since Monty would be driving the entire time, he was sure to buy a few frappuccinos from the gas station before you took off.
For the first half of the ride, you were pumped. You ate tons of chips and cookies and listened to your music really loud. The both of you sang along terribly to broadway musicals you didn't even know the words to half of the time. It started raining about ten hours into the trip, though. Luckily you had a tarp over the back of Monty's trunk. A little while after the rain started, you fell asleep.
It wasn't until a little after 11:00 when Monty neared the address you told him. He nudged your arm, and you immediately jolted awake. After only a few seconds of looking around, you recognized where you were. You remembered those trees nearly as well as you remembered everything else about this place.
A smile grew across your face. "We're almost there!" You exclaimed, pushing the hair away from your face and tying it up.
"How can you tell?" Monty asked with a grin. "The only thing around us are trees. Tons and tons of trees."
"Exactly, Monty. Trees. Beautiful trees."
"You're being uncharacteristically enthusiastic." He chuckled.
"You don't understand. This is pretty much the best place in the world. It was the best people, and they have really good food, and-"
You stopped when you saw your old mailbox. The smile on your face went even wider and you excitedly began bouncing in your seat. It was like Monty was pulling in the driveway as slow as he possibly could. It took all of your self control to not get out of the car while it was still moving.
Finally, he parked his truck. Before he even turned off the engine, you were halfway up the stairs. You barely even payed attention to the pouring rain.
You fished your keys out of your pocket and quickly unlocked the door. The furniture was covered in dusty plastic. There were cobwebs in corners and too many dust bunnies to count. The house didn't have that homey smell, and you were nearly 100% positive that your room wouldn't smell like lavender like it used to.
Monty came in seconds later with your bags. He set them by the door. "Whoa."
"I know, it's a little dusty, but once we get it all cleaned up and let some sunlight in, it'll be-"
"(Y/N), this place is huge!" He exclaimed, taking off his hood and looking around.
"Oh. Yeah, it is pretty big, I guess." You said with your hands on your hips, examining everything that could've changed. "Right, your room. This way."
You grabbed Monty's arm and dragged him up the creaky stairs and brought him a little past your old room. When you opened the door you stepped in to see everything as it was before, just really dusty.
"I say we clean up our rooms tonight, and maybe tomorrow we can do the rest of it. It really shouldn't take long."
"I mean, if you really want to." Monty tossed down his things on a desk. "But maybe we should just clean the living room tonight. Then we can sleep on the couch or the chairs. I just don't feel like cleaning two rooms after driving for so long."
"Yeah, that's a good idea. We brought blankets, didn't we?"
Monty nodded. "I can get those while you get the broom and dusting stuff."
"Okay." You grinned.
In a matter of minutes, everything was crazy. You were sweeping the large living room while Monty was dusting everything from the tv to the coffee table. After you swept the floor twice (you wanted to make sure it was really clean) you ripped off the furniture covers and put them outside on the back patio. You'd put them in the attic some other time. While you were doing this, Monty had finished dusting and went outside to try and figure out how to turn the power back on. Once that was taken care of, the AC kicked in and the lights flickered on.
You smiled, pleased with what the two of you did in such a short amount of time. Monty came back in, clicking off his flashlight.
"Hungry?" He questioned, holding up the remainder of the snacks you brought.
For the rest of the night, you and Monty sat on opposite sides of the couch, drinking soda and watching disney movies. You stayed awake long enough to sing along to Mother Knows Best in Tangled but fell asleep before Rapunzel even left the tower. Monty, on the other hand fell asleep near the end, after the floating lanterns.
You were perfectly content with the way things were turning out. It was looking out to be a great break.
