I looked in the mirror and sighed at my apperance. I was sweating, a lot. I guess you can say I'm nervous. No, thats an understatement. I'm terrified.
The other girls started to pile out of the locker room so I followed. I would say there are about, 30 people here. I didn't know cheerleading was that popular.
I looked over to the head cheerleaders and they didn't seem so... mean. I always thought cheerleaders would be mean, nasty, and think they were better than everyone else. They looked, different.
"Okay ladies, are we ready?" A cheerleader asked. She must be the caption.
Everyone yelled 'ya' but I was the loudest. I saw the caption look over to me and slightly smile. If there's one thing I learned about trying out, it is to stand out and make the evaluators remember you.
"Great! My name is Mia, and these lovely ladies behind me are Kate and Ally." Mia said.
"So we wish you the best of luck, and remember, everyones a winner!" Mia said smiling.
Okay, so that could get a little annoying, but I could get used to it.
"So lets start out with stretching so you guys can warm up, we will be evaluating you individually, and we'll start in about 5 minutes." Mia said walking back to the table with the other cheerleaders.
It was a big gym so people started to stretch and flip. I just stretched my arms out and did some cartwheels. I gradually started doing more complicated flips until they called the first person.
"Emma." Mia called looking around.
Emma walked up in front of the table.
"Okay, Emma. This is a very informal tryout. We just need you to do some flips and work the pom poms." Mia said smiling.
Emma started doing flips and danced with the pom poms when the music started. She was good, really good.
"Alright, great job, Emma. You can have a seat." Mia said.
Emma didn't say anything and walked away. I could tell she was shy. She walked over and sat down not too far from me.
"Hey, you did really good." I said smiling.
She looked up and blushed.
"Oh, thanks." She said and smiled back at me.
"Avalon."
My heart dropped. I shakily got up and walked to the table.
"Okay, Avalon. Whenever you're ready." Mia said.
I took a deep breath and started. I started dancing my heart out. I started fliping to the music. I started to block out any outside distractions. I was only focused on my feet moving and dancing. I was hympotized by the music. I was in the zone.
It's very rare that I get in the zone. I feel like I'm unstoppable. I feel like all my fears went away. But there is always that one thing that has to yank you out of your dreams. That one thing that makes everything go down, crashing and burning.
Mine was when I looked at the crowd. I don't have stage fright, but there was one particular person that I saw that made me mess up. And that person was Aaron. Why would he be here?
He was focused only on me and I tripped over my own feet. I was falling but I caught myself by doing a summer salt and standing up afterwards.
I stopped and looked around to see shocked faces. Including Aaron. The only normal face here was Mia. Her face was satisfied, like she was expecting me to do good.
