Chapter 19: Communicating

“I actually get to meet them again?” I clapped my hands excitedly.

“Yeah but the problem is that you can’t actually go to the concert again coz there weren’t any seats, but you can hang out with them.”

“Hang out? Oh shit that sounds awesome.”

“Alright, I’ve gotta dash, but just go and find their dressing room. They know you’re coming.”

Ashton dashed off and left me to try and find the One Direction dressing room by myself. I was never good with directions and I found myself lost. I had no idea where I was and there didn’t seem to be anyone around. I was planning on just sitting there and waiting until someone showed up, but I’d only just hit the ground when there were voices.

Niall and Liam came around the corner. They stopped when they saw me.

“Hey you’re Elaine!”

“Um… hi,” I mumbled, quickly getting back up.

“Good to see you again!”

“So you are here, we were wondering where you were coz Luke told us you’d be here today but you never showed up.”

“Yeah, Ashton ditched me and I couldn’t find my way around and I sort of got lost…” I blushed.

“Don’t worry, we would’ve gotten lost too,” Liam reassured. “Come on, we’ll take you to the dressing room.”

“By the way, do you have cookies?” Niall asked.

“Wha- oh…” I’d completely forgotten about making cookies for him. “Sorry, no, the others surprised and I had no idea I was coming here today. Sorry Niall.”

He pouted. “Next time then.”

We reached their changing room and from the other side we heard a lot of screaming and yelling. Of course, what else could be expected from One Direction? I ended up having so much fun with them. I’d completely forgotten that they were my idols and I was not star struck anymore. Instead, it was like I’d known them for years and we were best friends.

Between the time during soundcheck and the actual concert, we went into the car park for a game of soccer, using the cars as the goals. It was One Direction against 5 Seconds of Summer plus… me, Australia vs England and Ireland. The teams were reasonably even. Both teams had a somewhat professional players – Louis and Calum and even though I was the only girl, I was apparently pretty good. In the end it was tied game, if some fans hadn’t snuck their way into the car park, our team probably could’ve claimed victory, but I perfectly understood how those girls felt. I probably would’ve done the same if I had the chance.

“You’re really good at football Elaine,” Louis praised. “I think it’s safe to say you’re way better than Mr Harold Styles.”

“Hey!” Harry protested.

“Thanks, I always preferred soccer over netball and basketball and all that. Me and Michael’s genes probably got mixed up, coz he got the musical genes and I got the sporty genes, you think the guy would get the sportiness and the girl would get the musicalness.”

“Nothing wrong with a girl being good at sports,” Zayn said.

“Yeah, good point. So what if I prefer playing soccer than putting on make-up?”

“There we go! That’s the spirit!” Harry said joyfully.

“I still don’t get why Australians call football soccer. It’s meant to be football,” said Niall.
