"I'm so glad you're my Partner In Crime." "As long as you'll be my Partner In Time."
-Max Caulfield and Chloe Price
(A/N: I am so sorry I've been so slow on update this weekend. I've been sick since Friday and I've been too sick and weak to update. I'm trying harder now because I'm feeling a bit better. Again, I apologize lovelies.)CHAPTER ELEVEN: Splash Splash?
The moon was up high in the sky tonight, silently floating among the stars. I stared at it for a little bit, watching the huge pale orb. It's moonlight shined down on the ground, giving the world a dull illumination. It was a little breezy tonight, the colored leaves getting rustled and pulled on.
There was no one outside in the yard, a ghost town it seemed. The only living thing around outside was the moths that flew hastily around the streetlamps dotting around campus. I sighed heavily, laying my head on my desk. I was exhausted, sleep didn't come easy anymore.
Every time I closed my eyes, the sight of Kate jumping off the top of that building was burned in the backs of my eyelids. I knew it was going to take a very long time for the image to fade.I ended up dozing off, falling asleep to the sound of the crickets chattering outside. Everything else was so quiet around me. I was sure everyone on campus was fast asleep, no nightmares or guilt riddling their blissful dreaming. Suddenly, just as I was about to full go under, my phone went off near my head.
"Kate!" I cried out, jolting upward in my chair. My eyes widened as I frantically looked around, my heart dropping when I realized it was a dream. I placed my hand on my chest and felt my rapid heartbeat going off. I took a deep breath, shaking my head as I reached for my phone. I unlocked it, seeing that it was from Mark.
"I have something to show you. Meet me in front of campus. Get that ass in gear, now."
I let my eyes scan over the text, nodding to myself. I pushed myself back, standing up and grabbing my phone. I knew Mark would be all over this, so I better get moving. I sighed, heading to the door and slipping out into the hallway.
I felt uneasy with all the darkness, so I pulled my phone out and turned the flashlight on. My stomach churned as I walked passed Kate's door. It was taped off with police tape, a tiny shrine at the bottom of the door. I frowned, bending down and lighting one of the candles that had been blown out.
Kate, I would give up my power just to have more chance to save you. I swallowed the lump in my throat and pushed on, heading further down the hallway.I made it outside, finally getting out of the stuffy dorm. I walked along the sidewalk, watching bats fly by and the occasional squirrel scampering up a tree. I rounded the corner, freezing once I heard a certain voice.
"I know I have a set of keys somewhere..Ah! Gotcha! Now why won't they fit?" I gasped, it was Principle Wells. His back was turned to me, his hands fumbling to unlock the door. I walked quickly forward, praying he wouldn't see me.
"Miss Caulfield, you have to be stealthier than that." He sat himself down on the steps, sighing heavily. I was surprised to see an empty bottle of whiskey laying next to his side.
"You're not supposed to be out of your dormitory at this hour. You know that."
"I'm sorry, Principle Wells. I'm still upset about Kate..I needed some air and space to walk.."
"I'm sorry you had to go through that today. You tried to help..but goddammit..Blackwell is my responsibility..and I..let her and Kate down. Go on back inside, get some rest. It's been a shitty day. Good night, Max." I stood there for a few moments, listening to the slur in his words and the uneasy swaying he couldn't stop.
I nodded, cursing under my breath as I walked back into the front yard, my hands clasped tightly together. I shook my head, wracking my brain.
