A slice of bread with jam, was all I had for breakfast that very Thursday. I washed the plate clean and quietly left the house, careful not to wake my mum up. Taking the usual route to school, Caramon High, I slowly walked down the path, politely greeting the neighbours.

Fifteen minutes later, I was seated in the corner of the classroom with a book in front of me. Slowly, students started entering the class in their cliques and lastly, our teacher, Mrs Helmsley, who prefers to be called Mrs Helms. I totally adored her. She was beautiful and kind. Her black hair flows down to her shoulder blades. Never scolded anyone unless she was really pissed. She gave just the right amount of work load and everyone listens to her. Even the teachers like her.

She glanced at the attendance list and called out the names one by one, "Mary Brown?"

"Here!" Mary replied.

Soon, she was at the bottom of the list, "Kristine Morgan"

"Present!" I acknowledged. She gave me a smile and I nearly screamed, her smile was gorgeous.

"Jeremy Lewis?"

No one replied. Who's Jeremy Lewis? Never heard of that name before. He's probably a new guy here.

"Jeremy Lewis?" Mrs Helms called out again.

Still no reply.

Mrs Helms shrugged and wrote something on the attendance before passing it to Kelly Cox, the class chairman.

"Ok good morning class, please turn to page 792 on the topic 'Cells'. I'll start teaching 'cells' today." She took her own textbook out before starting her lesson. I took my own textbook out, together with my notebook I decorated just for my Science notes.

Recess. I stayed in class and munched on my peanut butter sandwich while going through the notes I have taken down in class. "Cell surface membrane, controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell." I read out. No one was in class except me since all of them had left for the canteen. I took a sip of orange juice from my bottle and continued munching the dry bread.

25 minutes gone and I have already finished the whole bottle of orange juice and that slice of peanut butter sandwich. Our Maths teacher, Mr Turner, entered the class with his flask of cappuccino. That's one thing I loved about Maths lessons. The smell of coffee every lesson. I think Mr Turner can't ever survive without coffee. He had his polo tee on with black pants. His clothes can't get anymore boring, polo tee and jeans or black pants everyday. He continued teaching us algebra from where he left off last lesson, and I took out my Maths notebook from under my desk and started taking down notes. "Class! Please listen up! I'll be giving a 10 minutes quiz on algebra now." Mr Turner said as he passed down the papers row by row.

When everyone got their papers, he clapped his hands and said, "Remember to write down your name, class and register number. You have 10 minutes and you may begin." I flipped the paper over to second page where all the questions were printed on and quickly too a glance through. I'm glad I listened in class. I smiled to myself as I uncapped my pen and write down my working for the first question.

I'm confident that I'll pass this quiz, now that it's my third time checking through. "Please put down your pens and stop writing!" Mr Turner said as he collected all the papers back.

I passed him my paper as I smiled to myself. He gave us homework on algebra and left the class. As soon as he stepped out of the class, the class went rowdy as usual. I really hate it when it happens but I can't do anything about it. I can only seat in my corner and do my own things, usually reading, doing work or even drawing. "Hey! Did you hear? Jeremy Lewis is coming to our school in our class!!!" Mabel, the girl that gossips about everything in class, squealed loudly.

Jeremy Lewis?

That name sounds familiar. Oh right! Mrs Helms called out his name just now during attendance taking. Who's he though? How does Mabel even know who Jeremy Lewis is.

Mdm Price stalked into the classroom. Mdm Price, she's extremely strict and her hair is forever tied up into a tight bun. Sort of like how Professor Snape treated Harry Potter in his Potions classes just that Mdm Price was 1000 times worse.

The class immediately fell silent and everyone took out their Geography notes without being told to do so. "And the last advantage is that it does not have to depend on rainfall..." She explained. It has been 20 minutes through the lesson and I'm starting to get bored.

Just then, a boy with messy blond hair walked into the class with his black converse bag slung onto his right shoulder. His eyes were blue and he had a black piercing on his left ear. His plain black clothes were neat, for a boy. Like, neat. Neater than mine. It was completely smooth as if he ironed it every 30 minutes. It was spotless unlike mine. My clothes had folds here and there, there was a stain from the orange juice I spilled just now.

He walked to the empty seat behind me and sat down. "Excuse me!" Mdm Price shrieked, pointing a finger at the boy. I turned around to look at that student. He glanced at Mdm Price, as if he was glaring at her.

"Stand up!" Mdm Price fumed. The boy stood up.

"What's your name?"

"Jeremy." He answered lazily.

Mdm Price glanced at the attendance list on the desk, "Jeremy Lewis?" He nodded. Oh so this was the 'Jeremy Lewis' most of the girls were drooling about.

"Why are you late?" Mdm Price asked, setting the attendance on the desk.

"Woke up late." He shrugged as if he didn't care about getting a punishment.

"That's not an excuse! I expect a parent letter tomorrow about why you're late today. Sit. And please remove your piercing." Mdm Price instructed. I saw Jeremy roll his eyes before flopping back onto the uncomfortable chair every student in the world is forced to sit on. I think he caught me staring at him and he winked at me. I felt all my blood rush up to my cheeks and I quickly turned back to face the front, forcing myself to look down at my notes. Who on earth does he thinks he is? Trying to flirt with me?! I shook my head. What am I thinking? Why on earth would he flirt with a good for nothing poor kid like me. Get a grip Kristine!
