Chapter Twenty

I sat in the back of the car my arms wrapped around my body. Ryan sat beside me and Logan drove the car. My body was shaking uncontrollably and I could feel the tears pricking at my eyes but I would not give them the pleasure of watching me cry. I had no clue where they planned on taking me but I had no doubt that it wasn’t going to be a good place.

“Take a left here,” Ryan spoke loudly making me jump.

The large truck swerved rapidly to the left making my body shift to the right falling into Ryan. I swiftly pushed myself up and back to a sitting position.

The car reeked of alcohol from the two boys and many empty bottles that were tossed carelessly on the car floor.

Glancing out the window I saw the city lights fading into the distance, I had never been this far out of town. In my short time here I had gone on very few adventures to see the land outside of the main city area. I was completely content sitting in my room listening to music or spending my evenings at Harry’s house with his family.

“Ryan,” Logan slurred taking his eyes off the road to look back at Ryan and I, “we’re going to Widow’s Peak right?”

Ryan nodded and rested his head on the seat, “where else would we go.”

Nervously I bit at my lip, I had heard about this ‘widow’s peak’ before. It was deep in the woods outside of town. It was typical druggies hang out place because it was so hard to find in the first place. Glancing around the truck I spotted my purse in the front seat. They had taken it and my cell phone from me when they grabbed me.

I needed a plan to escape from here but nothing came to mind. I was never much for violence, I usually got out of my problems with the assistance of an adult and recently with Harry, but now this was all up to me.  I had to be my own hero.

“Where here,” Logan spoke pulling off the road and parking the car in an empty lot.

Unlocking the door Logan got out of the door and so did Ryan, relocking it as they got out. They walked to the front of the car, talking softly to each other.

This was my chance, I had to try and run. Reaching forward I pulled my cell phone out of the cup holder Logan had put it in. I leaned back placing my hand lock I popped it open my eyes locked on Ryan and Logan. Slowly I moved my hands down to the door handle and pulled it open slowly.

The door hinge creaked open in the cool night air and I shifted slowly so my feet were hovering above the ground. I could hear my mother’s words hovering through my mind. She wanted me to be safe, and Harry had promised her that.

Using what little courage I had I pushed myself out of the car. My feet hit the ground running.

“Hey!” Ryan yelled as he saw me running down the dirt road.

Their loud footsteps echoed behind me as I ran. I had never been much of a runner but the adrenaline pumped through my veins giving me a sensation I had never experienced before. My phone was still clenched in my hand but I knew it wasn’t going to be safe there. Pushing it down my dress so it was situated perfectly in my bra I continued to run.

“Got you.”

Two large arms wrapped around my waist and lifted me off my feet. Instinctively I began to kick and punch at the large body that held onto me. My legs and hands began to burn from the unceasing motion.

“We didn’t want to do this,” Logan hissed walking up behind Ryan who was holding onto me.

Logan’s strong hand grabbed my face and held it still; he used the other hand to pull open my mouth open shoving a small white tablet inside.
