dan hadn't expected death to be so still and quiet. he pictured it as cold and foreign but it was warm and welcoming. comforting arms of death herself wrapped around him, pulling him closer to the edge. dan obliged quietly, letting his toes dip into the frigid waters of life after death.
dan becomes more and more unaware of the hard, cold cement he's lying on as his heart slows and his mind travels. he can't hear the torments of the inmates surrounding him anymore.
it's quiet.
slowly, dan let's himself diminish into the white abyss that his mind as become. it starts with his skin, flesh disintegrating into nothing. then his bones go, starting with his legs and ending with his skull. his lungs heave once more until they're gone, too.
and then he's nothing but a wispy soul floating through an afterlife.
