Brown- the person is on edge and nervous

I always knew dad was shady. But I had never thought he would he would get caught. One time when I was little he taught me how to get away with shoplifting. So of course I always knew him as sketchy but it was always petty things, never anything serious.

But identity theft and shoplifting candy bars are much different.

It had been around a month since he was charged and I hadn't been able to see him until the day of the trial, which was today.

I had already gone through all the security and now sat by his lawyer.

It honestly sucked walking into the court. Everybody within a twenty mile radius had heard about my father, many of them people he had stolen from. A crowd stood outside of the court, many of them shouting at me and my mom. Most of them were aimed at my dad, but some were aimed at me.

Dropout
Money leech
Screw up
Criminal

Those were a few of the many things shouted at me.

"You have ten minutes." The officer said as he released my dad into the room.

"What are you doing here?" He asked, looking down to his cuffed hands. He didn't look like my dad, he was almost a stranger. Dad had always had kind eyes and black grey hair that he always wore slicked back. By the man in front of me was scary.

"I wanted to see you." I spoke, feeling nervous for the first time in a while.

"Why?"

"Because you're my dad, and I was worried about you Steven." I smirked, knowing he hated when people called him by his real name.
"Dan don't start okay. In really sorry, never thought I would get caught." He smiled, sitting down in a chair.

"Well you did. Why would you even do that? It's so fucking stupid." I smiled, my anger coming out.

"I did it all for you dumb fuck. You and your mother are the reason I'm here. Thank you." He said and stood up from the chair, walking closer to me.

"And I'm the dumb one? You're shitting yourself. How did I even get such a dick for a father? You were supposed to show me how to throw a baseball, not steal from people. Did you know I got arrested a couple months ago. Oh wait no you were too busy stealing from other families. You did a great job raising me, thank you so fucking much Steven." I finally said, watching as his face changed from surprised to angry.

"That's no way to talk to your father." He smirked, looking down to my converses.
"Those are new." He smiled, and then smashed my foot with his shaggy oxfords, rubbing them on my shoe.

"You fucker." I finally snapped, throwing a punch at his head. He then stumbled back into the chair, covering his eye in his hand.

"You two stop! Dan leave now!" His lawyer finally snapped, watching as I left the room.
That's when I decided to leave the trial. It was obvious that he didn't care, and why should I.
"Hey Dan how did it go?" Mom asked, but I ignored her.

Once I was finally out, the crowd had died down but not all the way. There were still picketers out front, demanding my father be punished.

I quickly dialed Kyle's number hoping he would pick up.

"Hello?"

"It's me, can I pick you up?" I asked, tears starting to form in my eyes.

"Uh yeah, what's wrong Dan?"

"I can't explain okay, I'll be at your house in ten minutes." I said, and hung up before he could say bye.
