Kyoko POV-
I made my way to school with my music loudly playing in my ears. I felt quite relaxed even though I was up late last night going over some game footage where the first string had played. I still had a lot to learn about everyone, I really want to become a asset to the team even if I can't be on the field.
I wasn't in a particularly good mood today, I had to go to the rehabilitation centre again for a check up. Thankfully I don't have to do much exercise there but I just hate it there, it's a constant reminder of my injury. When I first started going, I used to cry while walking home after each appointment.
I finally made it to school and I headed to the classroom, hanging my bag on the side of the desk and buried my head in my arms. I didn't have any motivation for today at all.
"Yo Kyo-chan, why you all gloomy?" I heard an upbeat voice ask and the chair in front of me being pulled around. Too noisy.
I lifted my head and saw Miyuki leaning against the edge of my desk and Kuramochi sitting on Miyuki's desk.
"Urusai, Kazuya. You're too loud." I mumbled, followed by a yawn.
"Kazuya? I guess you to are real close now." Kuramochi retorted which made Miyuki chuckle.
"You sound jealous." He replied, saying the same thing as I did yesterday. I guess our personalities can be compared, we both like teasing Kuramochi that's for sure.
The shortstop just tutted and walked to his seat. "So what's up with you? I hope your not gonna be like this at practice." This just annoyed me, a lot more then I was.
"I'm not attending practice today, I have some things to do." I blandly stated making Kazuya raise his eyebrow.
"Where you going?" He asked, maybe a bit to eager.
"I have an appointment at the dentist after school." I lied, I know I shouldn't lie to my teammates, but I really don't want them to know about my arm.
"Ah ok, well you better make up for it next week, I wanna see what your like helping us against actual teams. Were having some practice games against two other schools. One being Inashiro, Seido's main rival." He smirked, but then gave me a questioning look when he saw I had a shocked look on my face. I-Inashiro?
Kazuya was about to ask what was up but was interrupted by the maths teacher entering the classroom. That was lucky timing for me. Really, Inashiro? That is something I didn't want to hear on a day like this.
Lessons on the second floor had ended and I making my way back to the first year classes. At least the change was good, I would hate to stay in the same room all day. Just before reaching the step I hear a voice call out to me and see 3 girls who are in my English and Maths.
"Yes?" I nonchalantly ask, the girls looking irritated more then they were. What pissed in their cereal?
"You seem quite close to Miyuki-kun, you're even on first name basis. I hope you two aren't going out."
"Would it be a problem if I were?" I smirked, seeing their angry faces. One of the girls walked up to me and grabbed my shirt by the collar.
"We all love Miyuki-kun so we all decided that we wouldn't go out with him for the happiness of all of the other girls." I scoffed hearing this, these girls were really stupid.
I placed my arm on the girls arm with a tight grip, obviously causing her a bit of pain. "Firstly, did you hear me agree to you stupid rule. Don't think I'll just follow a long to whatever you say. Secondly, you guys decided not to date Kazuya? Really because I don't see him looking at any of you. You're lucky, I don't have those type of feelings for Kazuya, otherwise I would pursue him if I wanted. I just respect him as a baseball player. So don't bring up these stupid matters again." I released the girl and finally made my way down the stairs before they could answer. I hated girls like that, I had to deal with them a lot as I was always be surrounded by guys. Just because I spoke to the guy they liked they got all defensive. They should speak to them if they want to develop the relationship, not just take it out on me.
Walking into class, Sawamura saw me and ran over with an excited look on his face.
"Kyoko-san, did you hear? I'm going to get special pitcher training starting today. Hopefully I can form a battery with Miyuki-senpai again!" The energetic boy exclaimed and I just smiled.
"You earned your chance to stand on the mound, I can't wait to see what you can do. If you need anything just ask, even if it's just standing in the box while you pitch. I'll be glad to."
"Well come to the meeting, Shades mentioned that you would be helping as well." I just nodded, I could be present for the meeting before heading to my appointment at least.
Me and Sawamura spoke quite a lot because he is one of the easiest people to converse with. Obviously all we spoke about was baseball, but that made me glad as well.
-Time Skip-
The end of the day finally was here after each lesson dragged. Anyway, I walked toward the fields where I saw a lot of the boys appearing and heading to their dorms or the changing rooms to get ready for practice. I really do love this atmosphere.
"COACH!" I shouted again, as I saw him by the batting machines.
"Kyoko, you look enthusiastic as ever." Aniki smiled and I just nodded.
"Yeah, but I can't stay at practice today, I have a dentist appointment. Sawamura told me about a special pitcher practice, I thought I should see how you're gonna handle him and Furuya-kun." Coach smiled and started walking towards the field where we saw Rei.
"Rei is going to explain everything, I'm happy you could be hear. It will be a real help for the pitchers to have a batting expert to consult hear and there." He stated and I just smiled, trying to hide my almost sad looking face. If only he knew the real truth. "Anyway, I need to go help fielding practice, see you later Kyoko." I waved bye and turned to Rei and saw Kazuya coming up from behind her.
"Kyo-chan, I thought you had you're appointment." The catcher asked in confusion.
"Ah, I'm going in a sec, just going to be here to see how Sawamura and Furuya-kin are going to be trained." I smiled and Rei spoke up.
"Yes, we going have them pair up. Furuya will be with Miyuki and Sawamura will be with Chris." She stated.
"Chris? I don't want to seem rude but who's that?" My question made Rei and Kazuya look at each other contemplating what to say.
"I'm Chris, nice to meet you." I plain voice spoke from behind me making me look at him.
My eyes widened as I recognised him immediately. This 'Chris' was one of the guys I always saw at the rehab centre. We had the same doctor I'm pretty sure.
"Ah-ha yeah, nice to meet you too." I stuttered trying to look away. Maybe he won't notice it's me? Hopefully he has no clue who I am, we haven't ever spoken so it's a possibility.
Kazuya noticed my weird behaviour, but didn't bring it up. Thankfully. The two first year pitchers then came and everyone was introduced and everything was explained. Sawamura didn't seem too happy...
"Anyway, I need to go now. See you guys tomorrow bright and earlier." I waved and almost ran out of the school. Crap, if he knows who I am the secret about my injury most likely will come out.Sighing, I walked into the rehab centre and waiting for the doctor to see me. When I entered the office he asked me how I was and if I had been playing baseball. Of course I lied.
"Okay, do 10 reps with the 5kg weight." He stated and I did, feeling a bit of pain in my elbow.
"Looks like your arm is getting worse again, are you sure you're not doing anything to effect it like this?" The doctor asked a bit more seriously this time.
"Well, I hit a ball once. I didn't think it would be that bad." I stated, leaving out the part where I had to move some equipment around and used a bit too much strength.
"Akashi-san, I told you. You can't play anymore. Well at least not in high school. If you ever want to play again, your best chance is waiting for College." He sternly stated, taking my arm in his hands.
"Tell me if it hurts." I nodded while he started to gently pull my arm around.
"That hurts." I blankly replied when my arm was stretched behind my back towards my other side.
"Okay, you just need to rest for a week and do 20 reps a day again." I sighed and agreed, thanking the Doctor.
I walked towards the entrance and saw the worse person imaginable.
"Why haven't you told anyone about your injury?" Chris asked. I was hoping he would ignore me but I had no such luck.
"Coach wouldn't even let me touch a bat if he knew."
"Isn't that the point, if you want to heal, you shouldn't be so reckless."
"Shut up. I don't know what your injury is but don't speak like you know what's wrong with me. I most likely won't ever be able to play again, not for a long time anyway. I wanted to show my mentor the fruits of my training even if it would worsen my state. So don't speak like we're in the same situation." I began to walk again until he said another.
"You shouldn't lie to your teammates." I ignored him. Teammates? I can't even play, at least he could practice with everyone. I felt tears come to my eyes but I held them back and walked home.
I hope he won't mention anything.
