Shawn's P.O.V
Being a vampire sucks, literally.
My life ended five months ago when I took a drug overdose with vampire blood in my system. I didn't know about vampires back then, as least not until I woke up to meet my new family. I wanted to die, I wanted to be with my mom and dad again but instead I woke up to find my life had changed forever. Some might say it was for the best but I say it's the opposite.
The woman who found me, saved me and told me to call her mother is named Lily Salvatore. She's a total bitch but I owe her my life. Her two sons Damon and Stefan are a little more bearable I guess, at least the younger brother Stefan is mostly understanding compared to his older brother Damon. They've been vampires nearly all of their lives so they aren't the most sympathetic towards me when I do something wrong - which happens quite a lot with being such a new vampire.
I suck - again no pun intended - at this lifestyle.
Damon Salvatore is one hundred percent what you would think a badass vampire would look like, short dark almost black hair; bright blue eyes that can incise any girl his way; and lips that naturally turn up into a constant smirk like he's taunting everyone around him.
His dark clothes make his image look mysterious though and with six months of knowing this guy I'm still curious to know if the black jeans he wears are the same pair or if he actually owns an identical collection. Damon doesn't do colour but he does do sarcasm and wit to a tea.
Stefan Salvatore however is Damon's complete polar opposite. He's an introvert who doesn't like being around too many people at once but still choses to go back to high school just so he can continue to learn everything he can. With his short brown perfectly styled hair (that I've recently learnt Damon likes to call Stefan's hero hair) and his almost copper coloured eyes and perfectly proportioned face he's what most would call a teenage girls dream.
"You remember what Lily said right?" Damon voices from the driver's seat of the car looking at me through the rear view mirror.
Stefan is sat beside him taking shotgun and I'm squished in the backseat like always, my long legs are tucked up at an awkward unattractive angle. With Damon's car being a 1969 Chevy Camero convertible you can imagine the pain my legs are in right now.
"No eating the students." I murmur as I repeat the same mantra these guys have been teaching me since I first decided I wanted to attend high school again, like a normal human - kind of.
"And what else?" Stefan grumbles watching as the students outside pass beside our car. They seem to know we don't belong in this school, almost every head is turned our way in curiosity.
"No eating the students because if that happens we-"
"If that happens again," Damon interrupts with a satisfied smirk directed my way.
"If that happens again we'll have to relocate which will draw unwanted attention our way."
"And what else did Lily say?" Stefan drones on once more.
Sighing I continue, "If I feel any hunger at any time I should call either of you immediately then run into the forest behind the school."
"Great A+ for acing your first test of becoming a high school student." Damon remarks sarcastically. "Although I'm not sure why you would put yourself through such hell?"
"It's called living Damon, I'm not sure you know what that is though." Stefan gets out of the car leaning his head back in to say a quick good luck on my first day before slamming the door and starts the short walk into our new high school all eyes on him.
"You'll do fine kid." Damon turns to smile at me, it looks genuine for once. "Remember everything we've been through over the past month and you'll have nothing to worry about."
"I hope so." I say taking a deep breathe before I follow Stefan inside the doors of hell feeling conscious of every single person looking at me.

Emily' P.O.V
"Who's the new guy?" I say tilting my head in the direction of the new kid walking up to Mount Morris High School.
He's tall with brown hair that's styled into a messy fashionable sort of quiff. His features are sharp and I can tell from this far away his eyes are a light brown. He's better looking than most boys in my grade so I make a point of staring at him.
"Apparently his name is Shawn Salvatore, he's new today and he's starting with his brother Stefan who's also in our grade."
I turn to Rebecca Lang my best friend who weirdly knows everything all the time, her light blue eyes sparkling with excitement as she taps away at her smartphone.
"You know this how?" I raise my eyebrows in question.
"Sally O'Donnell was behind him in the office this morning and tweeted about it. Everyone knows Emily."
Well obviously not everyone Becca.
"Where's he from?" I ask leaning back on my hands on the picnic table I'm sat on top of, my feet resting on the seat.
Living in Illinois it should be cold and snowy at this time of year but over the last week the storms have settled down, the snow has melted and dried up and the temperate has warmed a fraction. Don't get me wrong it's still cold and the sky is dull and full of snow clouds but it's bearable if you're used to snow every day. It feels weird to be sitting outside in the middle of January though.
"We don't know yet but by the end of the school day I'll let you know." Rebecca giggles at herself looking proud of her detective skills as she twists a lock of curly black hair around her finger.
"He seems different." I say as I watch the new guy take the steps to the front entrance slowly but with a flawless way about his walk. He avoids eye contact with everyone, keeping his head down and his hands buried into his burgundy baseball jacket. Although he looks like a high school student there's just something about him that's not right.
"Different? What do you mean?" Becca looks up from her phone to observe Shawn Salvatore more closely obviously not feeling the same.
"I'm not sure yet." I state as I hope off the picnic bench, hoisting my backpack over my one shoulder.
Rebecca shrugs at me aloof before following my lead as the morning warning bell rings across campus. My eyes never waver from the new guy.
