Emily's P.O.V

Shawn drops me off in the school parking lot as the atmosphere in the car slowly starts to turn stagnant. I hardly even say a thank you before he's disappearing seconds later so no one from school will spot him not looking at all ill like he was supposed to be. Reality set in when I realised I had only been away from school for an hour meaning I had only missed my study hall class and shockingly no teacher had noticed my absence.

I enter the school building from the back door to the thankfully already empty gym. The echo of fading voices sound from the changing rooms as the sixth period bell signals. I have five minutes to get to my next class - dirty blouse and all.

"Where the hell did you disappear to?" Becca's loud voice vibrates through me as I leave the gym. "Why were you in gym class don't you have a study hall fifth period?"

"I thought I left my headphones in there yesterday..." I lie as I fiddle with the dirty spot on my shirt annoyingly drawing Becca's unwavering attention down to the now crusty tea patch.

"Huh?" Becca's brows furrow as she looks at me funnily. "You had them on this morning and what happened to your blouse?"

Shit. Shit. Shit.

"Did I? And being the klutz I am I spilt my drink down me." I nervous laugh ushering on down the hall with a confused Rebecca trailing behind me. "Can't be late for World History you know what Ms Warns is like when someone is late."

"Sure," My wise best friend says. "So anyway, I'm just going to drop this subject so you think that I believe the crap you're spewing right now but when I come to your house tonight, I'll be there by six FYI, you need to debrief me on everything that happened during your escapade. Got it?"

"Got it," I grimace wishing for once that my best friend just wasn't so smart and knew me just a little less.

Well, fuck tonight just got interesting. Looking down at my watch I see I only have four and a half hours to come up with a really great lie.

"Emily, Becks is here. I'll send her up," My mother shouts up from the bottom of the stairs followed by a faint, "I'll bring you girls some snacks." to my best friend who I see clambering her way up to my room.

I knew Becca was here before she pressed the doorbell to signal her arrival. The clock had just struck six and Rebecca Lang is never late to anything unless it benefits her to do so. Sassy as ever she struts into my room like she owns the place and slides down into my pink beanbag chair by my window. Her dark skinny jeans and thick burgundy jumper just proves our good weather has finally taken a turn for the worst.

"Hey," I murmur from my lying stance on my bed. I'm flat on my stomach facing the door with my feet flying in the air behind me. My head phones are in a tangled pile in front of me with a closed textbook underneath. My first mistake of the night – one of many more to come I'm sure.

"Hey, you found your head phones I see." Becca grins like a mad woman because she knows she's caught me in the lie I spewed earlier.

"Yeah, they were pushed to the bottom of my bag." I roll my eyes and give a weak laugh.

"Piss off Emily Morgan." Becca copies my eye roll over exaggerating her every move. "Spill the beans or I'm gonna tell everyone you and Tyler have a thing going on again."

"Like, anyone would believe that after what happened last year." I dodge answering her. Tyler lost all interest in me in a long time ago and we've both moved on from that. Kinda.
