Emily's P.O.V

I meet Shawn at the school gates that morning, a full ten minutes before the warning bell signals. We decided on the drive to my house earlier it would cause a lot of talk if we drove to school together and today we wanted to keep as much attention off us as possible.

After Shawn dropped me off at home and I finished with my sister I hopped into my beat up old car and made my own way to school. The drive that takes only minutes felt like it would last centuries and by the time I made it to an empty space a few down from Shawn's car, or should I say Damon's car, my heart was beating way too fast and my palms felt overly sweaty.

"Calm down." Shawn whispers as he pulls me a little too hard out of the crowd of students walking into school and to the side away from easy view. We get a few curious frowns but nothing major. "I could hear your heart beating as soon as you pulled into the lot it's driving me crazy and I've had a little while to get used to this sort of thing, can you imagine a newly turned?"

"Sorry. I'm just nervous."

"I get it." Shawn whispers. "Damon and Stefan are on their way this is going to work but from now we can't be seen together ok."

"Yeah..."

"I'll give you a signal when it's time but please calm down he'll know something is wrong."

"I'll try I'm sorry." My voice quivers and my eyes trail down to the floor. I quickly decide that telling Shawn about my sister having her suspicions should wait until after we talk to Tyler.

"Em..." Shawn sighs drawing me in for a hug. "We'll get through this and your town will be safe again. This time tomorrow you'll be able to go back to living your life as normal."

"Thank you." I whisper into his chest as I hug him back with a new found strength and determination. "I'm ready to do this!" Even though I know my life will never be the same again.

"I can't believe you're mum made me cookies for the break up I didn't even have." Becca grins as she stuffs her face with the sweet goods I gave her during first period, it's now third period and as always Becca's stomach is rumbling, again, in boredom more than hunger.

"I'm so full of guilt for lying to her." I drop my head onto the desk in front of me. "I've never done that to her before."

"What she doesn't know won't hurt her right?" Becca murmurs between bites.

Rolling my head on my arms I look in my best friend's direction. "That's not the point Bec."

"I know but you can't change what you did so don't lie next time." She shrugs as she pops the last of the cookies in her mouth and scrunching the paper bag up in her hands nosily.

"Em, you're Mum won't care about a guy you're hanging with. Isn't she always trying to get you to date someone again after you and Tyler broke up anyway?"

"I guess," I mumble into my arms once more.

"Better dating Shawn than that guy Robby right?" I can hear the laugh in Becca's voice as she says the name of one of my Mother's friend's sons.

Robby isn't that bad honestly he's just, how do I put this, not my type? He loves his books and action figures a bit too much for an eighteen year old senior and let's just say I never want to step foot into his pit of a bedroom again after the last time I was forced to socialise with him.

"He's way too much of a slime ball Emily, ugh, I really don't like him." Becca continues. "What did you get up to with Shawn anyway?"

I'm not sure what to say to my friend's question but luckily the bell for class rings just as I open my mouth to lie again. Our English Lit class has quickly filled up with students whilst mine and Becca's conversation has been going on and our teacher Ms Wren is now at her desk waiting for our class to quieten down.
