"Are you holding up ok?" Stefan asks as he takes a seat on the bench outside the cafeteria. He chooses to sit facing everyone inside whereas I sit next to him facing away out into the thick trees that surround the school.

It's our lunch hour and holy crap, am I hungry and not just for food.

"I guess." I shrug folding my arms and leaning back against the table. "Everyone's talking about us..."

"We're new they'll get over us in a few days, its normal, happens every time I start somewhere." Stefan pulls out his phone and starts texting God knows who.

"There's a girl walking towards us." He adds not looking up from his phone.

I turn my head to see who he's talking about. It's a girl from a few of my classes, Emily I think her name is she's that Becca's friend from what I've seen so far. She's stunning is all I can think when she stops in front of our table with a nervous smile on her face. Her long brown hair has a slight curl to it that helps frame her face, her light make up helps enhance her beautiful grey eyes and her freckles are showing because of the sun. She has a little button nose and plump lips that suit her face. By first impressions alone this girl is hot.

"Hi, I'm Emily." She starts in a soft sweet voice. "You probably won't remember but I'm in your literature class."

Her dark purple long sleeved turtle neck tee fits her petite body, showing off her curves and breasts well but in a dignified way of still being covered up and not flaunting it like most girls. Her black jeans shape her frame to show an amazing perky butt. Emily is dressed so plain yet I feel my dead heart beating faster in my chest.

"And foreign language class," I say after a moment too long. "You're in my language class too."

Stefan looks up from his phone to stare at me then up at Emily, a small frown set on his face. What's his problem?

"Oh, you do remember," Emily blushes.

"I'm Shawn." I introduce awkwardly even though I know she already knows my name.

"Did you need something?" Stefan suddenly butts in kind of rudely, staring at me the whole time even though he's talking to Emily. I can see he's trying to silently tell me something but I choose to ignore him when I can't figure out what he's trying to say.

Emily looks hurt at Stefan's sharp tone but doesn't seem to let it affect what she came over here to say. She looks at Stefan for a second before deciding to ignore him as well. Good girl.

"Yes actually." She starts and I can't stop looking at her neck and those pink full lips as she speaks. "I want to know if what you said to Becca is true."

"What did you tell Becca?" Stefan says at the same time I reply with; "It was a joke."

Suddenly though I wish I had never said anything to Becca. Stefan's glare directed at me makes me wonder if I just messed up big time. Keep a low profile they said, be invisible they said, try to be normal they said and I've done the complete opposite. My heart rate picks up even more at knowing my family will be angry with me and Emily looking at me with her perfectly plucked eyebrows rose like she expects me to explain why I would joke about something like that to a girl I know nothing about.

"I need to go..." I stammer as I push away from the table, my bag over my shoulder.

I keep my head down as I walk away from Emily. My fists are wrapped into tight balls causing my finger nails to draw blood quickly from the pressure I'm squeezing them together. My heart keeps getting faster and faster and I know I can't be around humans right now. Their hearts beating, their blood pumping around their bodies, all I want to do is drag my teeth along a neck and bite, to feel their hot warm luscious blood pool into my mouth...
