Emily's P.O.V

I'm not sure how I ended up being invited into Shawn's house by his mother and I'm not sure why Stefan ran off when he realised I followed him. What I am sure of though is that I don't like Shawn's mum and I have no clue why. She seems like the sort of lady my own mother would befriend - kind, caring and protective towards her children but my gut is saying to run as far away from her as I can possibly get.

Shawn's house is freaking huge. If I remember correctly from my past history lessons it's an old manor house which was built back in the eighteen hundreds. It's one of the oldest houses in Lakeport and has only been lived in by a selected few families over the years. Last I heard it was empty and unlived in and has been for a long time. That is until the Salvatore's moved in.

The grounds span out for about a mile each way and are surrounded by a dense dreary forest. It's very secluded with only one other house that's hidden somewhere amongst the trees. I only know that because there was a sign at the end of the road with the house names etched in the wood. I've never been this far into the forests before though. It's always been too creepy for my liking.

"What's your name again lovely?" Shawn's mother says with a smile as she plants a cute little China cup filled with tea in my hands.

We are in what I assume is the living room. It's sectioned off into two spaces by a wall that has been opened up in the middle – a doorway with no door. One section has almost every wall covered in bookshelves with old delicate looking books stacked from top to bottom and the biggest table I have ever seen positioned right in the middle. The other section has antique furniture that looks like it's been renovated scattered around. It's a spitting image from one of the photos from my old history books apart from the more modern gadgets scattered around, like the laptop on the corner desk and the phone on the centre table between the sofas.

Lily takes a seat opposite me and sips her own drink which I'm almost certain isn't tea, red wine or tomato juice maybe?

"My name's Emily ma'am," I reply politely.

"Ma'am," Lily laughs though I get the slight impression it's forced. "Please call me Lily darling girl."

Not knowing that to say I smile instead keeping my gaze steady on the woman who looks nothing like I would have expected to her look. She looks nothing like Shawn at all.

"Do you attend the public school Emily?" Lily asks. Her eyes never leave me, making me feel uneasy under her intense gaze.

"Yes, I do." I reply shifting nervously in my seat.

"Oh, and what classes are you most fond of?"

"Music class probably." I admit. "I'm actually in some of your sons classes. I mean...Shawn's classes...but Stefan's also but mostly in Shawn's." I babble.

I silently curse myself for talking like an idiot, my face blushes red and my heart won't stop beating frantically from nerves. Lily is obviously someone who likes her image to be perfect and I am most certainly not that. She'll probably look down on me for the fact I love music and not math or science.

"Shawn has a fondness for music also." Lily replies after a moment, a smirk on her immaculate face. Although there's something behind that smirk that doesn't feel right.

I don't know anything about Shawn but I could have guessed he would be someone who loves music. From the few hours he attended school Shawn kept to himself. He seems like an introvert but he also has an air of confidence about him that makes me wonder if he prefers to keep himself apart from everyone so they don't end up getting too close.
