Dan can't stop staring at Phil, and it's not like it's an uncommon occurrence since he met him, but his eyes don't want to focus on anything else. And he's trying to get dressed, but Phil's in the other room and he's falling around his own room attempting to get ready fast enough to see if he's still there when he's finished. Because everything that's happened this morning seems like a dream.

But sure enough after ruthlessly hopping around to get in his tightest skinny jeans, and brushing his teeth so fast he could feel them shine, he is sure he looks good, and Phil is still in the living room where he left him five minutes ago.

Breathtaking.

"So like, what exactly are we going to do?" Dan asks as he walks over to Phil. I can think of some things.

Phil doesn't answer as he skims Dan's tiny living space and traces his long fingers over everything he can touch. He seems lost in all of the objects Dan shouldn't have bought because he couldn't afford it, but wanted in his home.

"Phil?" Dan asks.

The angel turns his head to face Dan a little to quickly as if snapped out of a daydream, "I'm sorry, I was distracted. But to answer your earlier question, we are going to find love."

Dan nods, "I know, you told me that, but how? And why did...God, or whatever, choose me?"

Phil smiled, "I chose you. God gave me a choice out of all the humans I could help find love, and I chose you. Anyone to ever fall in love has had a Cupid. After the deed has been done whether it lasts forever or not, anyone to come into contact with the Cupid has their memory erased, and they have a new story made for how they met, derived of the knowledge of how it really happened."

Dan furrowed his eyebrows, "So after they find love they don't remember the angel that guided them?"

"No."

For some odd reason that made Dan feel a little uneasy. So after this whole experience is over, he won't even remember it? And how exactly does it work? Who makes up the synthetic stories of finding love? The people, or the Cupids?

"So, I'm not going to remember you?" Dan asks for confirmation. It seemed like the most important question out of all the ones swimming in his brain.

"You might. You might remember running into me, but you won't remember this, and if you introduce me to someone, they won't remember me either. This is all temporary memory. When it comes to the time to leave you, you won't ever know I left."

Dan took a deep breath, "Wow, that's...well that's just...wow, okay."

Phil nodded as if understanding, "I can see how the human brain might find that a lot to take in. It is the knowledge that humans are constantly being manipulated and their brains make up their entire existence. It's okay though. You won't remember this, and it's dangerous to know the secrets of the world. I was once a human myself, so there is a hundreds of year old understanding deep inside of my heart that knows how you are feeling."

Dan's head was spinning for the second time that day, and he sat down as if to take it all in, "Wait...so you were once a human?"

Phil nodded, "Yes, a very long time ago. I can't remember it very well, and very few humans ever become angels like I did when they enter heaven. When angels die, old souls are asked to take their place. I am very old, and I said yes to the promotion.
