Chapter 41

A month passes. I look around the living room as I watch Robin make arrows across from me. He wraps it with string and decorates them with red feathers.

I'm almost due and they say the first few months are the hardest. It's a lie. The last few months are the most uncomfortable ever!

"Are you okay my queen?" Robin says tying another string.

I breath in and out deeply with my eyes closed," Just a few Braxton Hicks contractions."

"Is there anything I can do for that?" Robin asks after finishing the last arrow.

"Not really," I respond rubbing my stomach constantly as Echo kicks harder and harder.

The contraction goes away as the pain eases slightly," Robin can you help me up please? I need to go call Dr.Whale."

Robin helps me up from the couch as my stomach pokes out so much I can't see where I'm walking. He holds my hand behind my back near my hip and guides me to the kitchen.

He pulls me up one of the kitchen chairs and sets it beside the phone on the wall. I slowly sit down as Robin hands me the phone from the wall. Robin leaves me in the kitchen as he goes upstairs.

I dial the number of Dr. Whales office as Roland and Henry run into the kitchen searching for food to eat. I swirl my finger on the top of my stomach making invisible pictures.

"Hello...Dr. Whale" I greet him.

"Yes, Regina. What do you need? Is your baby still doing fine?" He asks me in his annoying voice.

"Yes! Echo is fine. She's doing good. I was wanting to ask you what exactly Braxton Hicks mean. I have been getting them for the past few days now," I ask him still swirling my finger.

"They are for your body. It is to stimulate what actual contractions feel like. Real contractions are a little more painful but are very close to Braxton Hicks. You will have them until you go into labor," Dr. Whale replies.

"Great. Just great. Well thank you! Have a nice day!" I tell Dr. Whale as Robin walks into the kitchen.

"You too ,Regina. You know you have gotten really soft hearted since you became pregnant right?" Dr whale says laughing through the phone.

"Say that one more time and you will not say anything anymore!" I say very angry and hang up the phone.

Roland, Henry, and Robin all look at me with their eyes wide open as I stand up from the chair.

"You go carry a baby for 9 months!" I scream at Robin as Roland and Henry go back outside to play.

"I'm sorry, Regina. You just scare me sometimes," he says causing me to laugh slightly as I waddle back into the living room and stop by the staircase to turn right back around to him.

"Ow!" I scream as my stomach starts to hurt badly. I grab my stomach in pain as I bend down slightly holding the railing to the stairs.

"Regina!" Robin says trying to touch me.

"No don't touch me! It's just a Braxton Hicks contraction it will go away in a minute."

As Robin stands there and looks at me in pain, the pain goes away in just a short minute as he then grabs my arms and tries to help me stand back up.

"You need to go to sleep," Robin tells me trying to bring me upstairs but I refuse.

"I promised Zelena I would go to her house and see Mother and Rose. Stone is out working today and we wanted to have a girl day," I fight with Robin as he then nods his head.

I snap my fingers and change into a very loose dress that is blue and wavy. The fact that it is very loose doesn't hide the fact I am pregnant but it makes me feel a lot more comfortable.

Robin grabs the car keys as I put on my slip on shoes. He carries me to the car and sets me inside the passenger seat as he goes to get inside the drivers seat. He cranks the car as I stretch my back to calm my pain in my back.

He drives to Zelenas house only 5 few minutes away and helps me out of the car. I look at the house and see the same old black shutters and green paint.

I knock on the door and open it as Robin leaves and goes back to the house. I see Zelena sitting on a brown couch right across from Mother as Rose plays on the ground with a box of dirt and flowers trying to get them to bloom.

I waddle over to the couch to embrace Zelena as she asks me," Did you get skinnier?"

I laugh and then glare at her just to go hug Mother as she tells me," Is Echo doing okay? Is she still kicking?"

Mother lays her hand on my swollen bump as I respond," She won't stop kicking actually."

I sit down beside Mother as I lay both hands on my stomach.

"How have you been feeling?" Mother asks me looking at my face as I whine in pain.

"I've been having Braxton Hicks contractions and uncomfortable but I'm fine now. I haven't had one for the past hour," I tell Zelena and Mother.

"Auntie Regina...will you watch me try and bloom this flower?" Rose asks me pointing to the box of dirt.

I nod my head and watch as Rose makes a flower bloom gorgeously in the soil. I congratulate her as she just did it by herself. She hugs me tightly and then breaks apart and takes her dirt box to her room and plays in there.

I place one hand on the top of my bump and on the bottom feeling the crease as I ask both Zelena and Mother," Do I really look that big?"

They both laugh.
