"Again!" I yelled out to them as they broke apart after the sparring session.

We were at a river I had found not too long after we hit the ground. It was a nice secluded spot but I never really visited it after discovering it. So what better way to use it than a training session?

"We've been going at it for hours now! When will we get a chance to go at you?" Kayla complained.

"When you're both can show me that you're equal in every aspect of your skills. Tessa beats you out with strategy which is why she knows not to go for a strength battle with you. You use your head and not your skills, you don't get beat. You realize that's why I always spar with her right?" I say back to her.

She frowns before going back to her fighting stance and Tessa does the same, mirroring her stance.

I turn away from them and survey my surrounding. I don't need any grounders ambushing us, especially since I just escaped death recently. I could probably fend them off, but Kayla and Tessa aren't ready yet. I only fought one of them when I was hurt, but I knew even at full strength I would have had a hard time taking him on. Although it could have just been that he was one of the strongest fighters, but I highly doubted he was one of the best. They probably had their best stowed away somewhere.

I glanced at the waterfall that was streaming the water down and saw that it had a cave leading inward. Tuning back in, I could hear fist against skin and realized they were at a stalemate in their fight. Kayla was blocking Tessa's moves with ease and Tessa was doing the same with Kayla, although Kayla left more a bruise on Tessa than vice versa, but it means both were finally grasping what I wanted them to do.

"Alright, that's enough" I called out. They stopped and dropped to the ground, exhausted from the sparring session.

I filled up the canteen with water and passed it to them.

"We take a break, then you both go up against me" I said to them, making them look at me with shock.

"Wait really!? Last time you let us spar with you was when you first started training us" Tessa spoke up.

"Well you finally grasped the concept of this training, so you earned it. But before we start, you guys wanna explore?" They nod excitedly before springing up to their feet.

I silently led them to the cave I saw past the waterfall. There was a path that was inside the cave, so I followed it, making sure to glance back to make sure the girls were still following. We made it without a problem, but what I saw confused me even more. I saw a hatch leading into the ground.

Curious, I walked up to it, and pulled on the lever. I jumped back as it made a hissing sound and then opened slowly.

I looked at the girls and they an equal expression of shocked plastered on their faces.

I looked into the hatch and saw a ladder leading into darkness.

"What do you say girls?" I ask them, still looking into the hatch.

"I say this is crazy and borderline stupid" Tessa says.

"I normally wouldn't agree with her, but we shouldn't go down there without at least 15 people behind us" Kayla adds on.

"Oh come on. No part of you wants to know what down there and possibly keep it for yourselves?" I say, looking back at them, seeing the conflict in in their eyes.

"It could be dangerous" Tessa says weakly.

"In case you haven't figured out Tess, the ground is dangerous. Pretty sure it can't be any worse than a race of people trying to kill us" Kayla says, stepping closer to me.

"Let's hope you're right" Tessa looks behind her for a second before coming over.

"You hear something?" I ask.

"Maybe, not sure" she says.

"You got the flashlight?" I ask them

"Yea, why?"

"You two to go down there, I'll scan the area for a second" I say, pulling away from them.

"Be careful. You might feel better, but your injuries are still there" Kayla says, a look of worry in her eyes.

"I'm always careful. Except for when I'm not" with that, I wink at them, making my way out the cave.

****

I wait a couple seconds after I'm sure they entered the hatch, to pull out my daggers, and get into my defensive stance.

"Come out now, and I might show mercy when I kill you" I say aloud.

It doesn't take long before a body drops to the ground in front of me. It's the same guy who attacked me before.

He stares me down, not saying a word, and neither do I. We both know how this is going to go. Especially after I got ambushed last time.

He pulls out his sword and rushes to attack. His stance is sloppier than before and I see about three openings, one kill shot, even with all the armor he had on.

I'm not as hurt as I was yesterday, but I'm more hurt than I was on our first encounter. I gotta play it safe.

I dodge his attacks as he swings wildly at me. His fighting is awkward, but I don't fully know his fighting, so I won't risk it. He swings again and I choose to attack. I push my dagger to a part of his exposed abdomen, but he moves scary fast and blocks, simultaneously cutting my arm in the process.

I back up, holding my arm. He moved really fast.

He moves again to slice at me, but this opportunity is too good to pass up. His neck is in full view and judging by his speed, he won't be quick enough to block my dagger if I flick it towards him.

I flick my dagger at him, but he quickly dodges it, cutting the same arm, but it leaves me with an opportunity to get him with my other dagger. I push the other dagger into his side and quickly pull back as he drops to ground, but rises back up just as quickly, holding his side.

He glances at it before smirking at me and dropping his weapon, motioning for me to come at him. So he wants a fist fight. Well I do like games.

I drop my dagger and rush towards him.

As I reach him I see him quickly put his hand behind his back, and that's when I knew I fell for his trap. He goes to stab me in the side when I jump towards him, but I angle my body around, grab his other arm and use my momentum to swing him over me. I don't let go as I pounce on him, delivering a few shots to his face. He rolls us around punching me in the face. He goes to stab at me, but I force his wrist to miss, as I grab the knife out of his hand and force myself to roll us back around. As we roll, I manage to push the knife into his neck, killing him instantly.

I roll off of the dead body and catch my breath before pushing myself up. I check his body, finding nothing valuable, except the sword he dropped. I could use it for emergencies I guess.

I pick up the sword and loop it in my belt, as I grab my daggers and put them back on me.

I glance back at the body of the guy and sigh.

I have a feeling this will definitely only make things worse between us and the grounders, but I can't dwell. Too many things to take care of.

Besides, when the time does come to fight, I'll be fighting till the end. We might be weaker, but if it's one thing I've learned from being a guard, the weak don't kneel, they stand and fight back.

I pass his body and make my way back to the bunker, making sure the eyes currently watching don't try anything stupid in the process.
