Tessa POV :
We had all calmed down around now as I was fixing up Kayla's shoulder. The sun was going down and it was dusk currently as we watched the sun start to set for the night.
"The arrow might have been poisoned, so we gotta get you back to the ark" I told her.
"That sounds like a good idea. I've had a pretty eventful day already. Besides, dad would love to see his other daughter" she says to me and smile brightly at the mention of dad.
"He made it!" I say excitedly and she nods, just as excited.
"He'll be so shocked to see you. Now all we gotta do next is get Sarah" she says brightly, although her voice betrays her facial expression, and I feel my mouth involuntarily turn to a frown thinking of how I could have helped her more.
"What's with the face sis?" She asks me and I look at her sadly.
"I saw her" I see her face wide in shock as she hears those words leave my mouth.
"She was trying to keep me safe from the Reapers and there were a lot of them. She said run and of course I did. But I felt like I should've stayed. So I went back, but when I went back, I only found the dead Reapers and this" I say to her, pulling out one of her daggers that had dropped on the ground. Kayla looked up at me sadly, tears threatening her eyes.
She knew something bad had to happen, because she would never voluntarily leave even one of them. I thought the same thing.
She pulled me into a hug and I hugged her back, not letting the tears fall as I thought of how beaten she looked when I turned to look at her. The pain she was hiding through that false smile. I should have stayed!
But it was too late now. Mount Weather probably had her now. Or somebody else completely. We hadn't even been past a section of the ground. For all we knew, there could be way more of them out here and we wouldn't even know.
I look over to see Finn and Murphy leaving, Bellamy tossing Murphy a gun.
"Watch his back" Bellamy tells him, then Kayla says after him.
"No, watch him" she says, a hint of anger in her voice, that I just furrow my brows at, but I don't push. Octavia turns to us as we all look to her.
"If we move now, we can get to camp by first light tomorrow" she says to us. We only nod at her and start to gather everything up. Kayla tries to pick her pack up, but I give her a look and she backs off, emitting a smile from me as I grab it, feeling the automatic in there.
We head out, beginning our long trek back to the camp.
***
"So what was that with Murphy and Finn?" I ask Kayla as we walk back to the camp. The sun is rising behind the clouds and we can see better now, our fear of getting ambushed lessening, but not leaving fully.
