"Some say the world will end in fire. Some say ice. From what I've tasted of desire, I hold with those who favor fire. But if I had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate, to know that for destruction, Ice is also great and would suffice."
- Robert Frost, "Fire and Ice" (1920)

Yuri Plisetsky and [Name] had known each other for a while. And by a while, I mean since they were children. And in that while they had known each other, Yuri had developed feelings for [Name].

As small children, [Name] was always in her shell unless Yuri was there. She was like ice; only fire could break her down. Yuri was like fire. Only ice could cool him down.

They were polar opposites, which made them perfect friends.

Yuri blushed as he watched [Name] get ready, "Are you done yet?" Yuri dead panned, with a blush on his face.

"Almost." [Name] assured. She was doing her hair in a bun, and putting a hair band in her bangs to keep them out of her eyes.

"Your hair takes forever..." Yuri groaned.

"Oh, calm down. I'll just be a second." [Name] said, successfully getting her bangs to stay back.

"Now?!" Yuri asked, aggravated.

"Yes." Was her simple response.

They walked from her apartment to the skating rink. Yakov wanted them to be in a couple's skating competition now that Yuri was older and strong enough to lift [Name]; though neither knew that to be the reason.

They approached the rink, and Yakov almost flipped a lid at the time.

"You were supposed to be here fifteen minutes ago!" He yelled.

"Whatever." Yuri snapped.

"We're sorry." [Name] answered.

"In any case, I've choreographed a couple's skating program for you two." he said, motioning for the two skaters to show them.

It started out with the two in the middle of the ice. Then, as the music became slightly more intense, the two acted as if they were trying to be together, but a force was keeping them apart. And the music got more intense as they got closer, as if the world was crashing down. At the climax, the man lifted the woman up, and set her back down. As this happened, they were skating together, and the music was in decrescendo. Getting slightly softer as time wore on. At the end, the woman was holding the man by the face with one leg around his waist, and the man's face was leaning down to the woman's embrace. He hand one hand on the small of her back, and one helping her keep steady around her leg.

Yuri blushed, Why like this? The music fits... But isn't that a bit... Much? He thought.

While [Name] watched, she understood. If they did this, it would be like fire and ice colliding. The world would change. Maybe not everyone's, but theirs would. It represented their relationship.

They started warming up, and got started on the choreography. Yuri was trying to figure it out. It made no sense to him. Why him and [Name]?

The days wore on, and as they got to the lift, he got more nervous. He knew he could lift her, but he was so nervous. What if he accidentally dropped her? What if she didn't want him touching her? She did consent to this, though...
