"Sir, are you going to pay?" The female asked while she tilted her head, waving her head in front of his face. Newt blinked a few times before he moved his eyes away from her and down onto the frame. She doesn't remember me, he thought to himself. Before Newt's heart crumbled into tiny shreds all over again, he pulled a few dollars out and put them on the table and started walking out.
He stopped at the door. It was like a sudden flashback with her (Colored) eyes filled with tears looking glossy as she looked up upon him. Newt's eyes started watering before he blinked repeatedly and cleared his throat. "Sir, are you alright?" The girl asked, and Newt turned around to face her. Oh, how she had barely changed. She looked just as beautiful as he remembered, and she had just as soft of a voice as ever. "I'm fine, (Name)." He said in a dismissive way. He started walking out the door with the bell above head chiming out. He walked outside the door and off a little bit, before he let himself lean back onto the wall of the shop and take heavy shaky breaths.
It was like he was grieving all over again.
(Name) stood in the shop with her mouth hung open and her heart racing against her chest. She was not sure if what she heard was correct, or if it was simply her mind playing tricks on her after being in the dusty and moldy shop for what was over five hours. She shook her head softly before she moved out from behind the counter and grabbed her coat, buttoning the long black coat down to the last button. (Name) ran out of the shop, looking around the street in a rush. Her eyes stopped on the man who had his head hung and his eyes tightly closed.
"Hey, sir?!" She yelled, with Newt's head shooting up towards her. He took a harsh swallow before rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand. He picked up his case with the hand holding the frame, and during all this the girl had made her way over to him and stood right before the man. She was odd, and everyone thought that. Her hair was not too short, rare in a time of short haired bombshells. She almost always wore black, something that most others would call peculiar.
"How did you know my name?" She had once again broken Newt out of his thoughts. He did not want to hurt the girl again, and he knew very well that he would if he got close to her again. Instead, Newt simply furrowed his brows slightly, beginning to walk away from her. (Name) stood there dumbfounded. He had just walked away without a single word, and that made her heart break. She had taken a deep breath and a step back, before she had started following the man in full speed.
"Sir!" She called out after him, but she was starting to lose the curly haired man in the crowd of people walking by. "Oh, no please." She whispered while trying to push past people. She pushed rougher and tried to go faster, but soon enough she had come upon someone who was not as easy going as the others. The man grabbed her by the arm, his eyes narrowed and his teeth clenched. It seemed as if you could almost see the veins popping out of his head, and it instantly sank (Name)'s heart. "Sorry." She whispered, but the man only growled out.
"Repugnant witches like you shouldn't be walkin' round like some kinda' drunk." He had a heavy New Yorker accent as he growled out. (Name) tensed up and closed her eyes tightly, scared for the man's next move. Newt had stopped in his track as soon as he heard the loud growl. He turned on his heels and looked around the area, spotting the burly tall man almost instantly. He held the girl at least an inch off the ground with her feet dangling below her. Newt's heart was pounding.
This time though, it was not because of memories. It was because his blood was boiling. He had walked over to the man and girl, setting down the case and frame onto the ground next to him. Both heads turned to him, and Newt wore an ironic kind and warm smile. It dropped instantly before he had pulled his fist back, then hitting the man square in the jaw. He dropped the girl as he lost balance and fell back with a loud groan. (Name) yelled as she started falling back once her feet hit the ground at an odd angle, sending her falling. Newt jumped forward and grabbed the girl's waist, pulling her towards his torso.
As he had done this, though, there was a sickening sound of glass breaking from under Newt's shoe. He did not dare to move his foot though. He simply just stood there and held the shaken girl close to his chest, and she did not dare move either. It almost felt normal to (Name)- the man's touch. She closed her eyes and shakily sighed her fears away. The man still lay on the ground groaning softly, not daring to stand. But, after many long moments of the couple hugging, (Name) broke away. She opened her mouth to speak, but instantly stopped when her eyes fell to Newt's shoes.
"The frame." She said, in a dark and almost regretful voice. Newt looked down to the foot she was looking at and he had lifted his shoe, looking down at the broken glass. He blinked at it a few times before he cautiously picked up the object. "I'll buy you a new frame." She said, putting her hands over his one large one that was holding onto the picture frame. He was going to say against the idea, but he met her eyes and all other thoughts left his head.
"That'd be wonderful, thank you."
