Savannah POV
I was confused. This guy I hardly even knew was making me go insane. I was receiving so many mixed signals that could make me scream in confusion, something I never experienced with Darren. James kept me guessing and even though I wouldn't admit it, I liked it.
"Darren." I look over to my bedside table as the sun peeks through my blinds. Allie was an early bird so she was already awake probably off getting breakfast. Truthfully my social butterfly of a best friend could be all the way in China Town right now for all I knew.
I haven't talked to Darren since the night Allie dragged me off to that stupid party. I had to tell him I kissed James, twice, with sparing the details of course.
I put on a frilly blue t-shirt with denim shorts. Allie had helped me with my wardrobe since the day I met her, she was good with things like that.
Knock knock knock knock
"Allie isn't here." I don't bother looking up from my notebook after I made my bed. Ever since I had been rooming with her, Allie has had friends everyday that come knocking for her. I was working on a poem about a girl who was torn in between two men when I heard a familiar voice.
"Is a Savannah Grey there?"
I shoot up and run to the door opening it as quickly as my hands would allow. Before I know it, I'm swooped in by my boyfriends embrace, getting picked off my feet literally as he spins me around and sets me back down.
"Darren." I move my hair from my face and my arms naturally folded together without me noticing.
"Oh your arms." He notices. "What'd I do?"
Looking down at my arms I release them quickly, not wanting to be rude. "Oh nothing, nothing nothing. Nothing!"
"Okay ms jumpy."
"Jumpy? Jumpy whos jump? My names Savannah, no jumpy here. Come in!" I extend my arm out and tilt my body to the side making room for him to come in.
I let out a loud sigh as I close the room of my dorm, pressing my back towards it, watching Darren look around.
"This is a nice little set up. Matching comforters, huh?" He walks over to the bed with the notebook on it and glides his hand over my comforter. He looks back at me. "Made yourself a new friend?"
I stay still, my back pressed firmly on the door until he notices I haven't moved yet. Not wanting him to catch on to my nervousness, I walk over and sit down on the bed. I needed to tell him what happened and now was a better time than never.
"Darren I-"
The door bursts wide open and Allie comes in stumbling. "Hey party people!"
By the way she stumbled to get the door open, I could tell she was plastered.
"Wow, couldn't wait till noon could we?" I tease as I watch her make her way to her bed with the bundle of chip bags and cookies she brought with her.
"Oh hush it. Who's that?" Her index finger extends as she locks eyes with Darren.
"Hey, I'm Darren, Savannah's boyfriend." Darren extends his arm out as Allie falls backwards onto the bed, her snacks fall onto her torso.
"Hey buddy, we don't do handshakes here this aint no interview kick back relax and have some snacks!" She throws a bag of barbecue chips at Darren.
"Don't mind her."
"Wait a minute!" Allie looks at Darren, back at me, and back at Darren. She knew what he looked like and although she was drunk, she made the connection quickly.
Please don't say anything Allie, my mind pleads as I shoot her a stern look. My eyes narrow to her as I clinch tightly onto my comforter. Darren needed to know, but not like this. It wouldn't be fair.
"Oooooh you know what? I'm going to be quiet." She gets the hint and lays back down on her back observing the ceiling to our dorm room."Shhhhhhhhhh!" She sloppily puts her finger to her lips and then proceeds to lick off the cheeto dust she had on it from her snacks.
I smack my hands down on my legs as I get up from the bed and take Darren by the hand. I needed to get out of here soon before Allie said something she would regret. "How about I show you around Shorepoint? Allie needs to try to ware that drunk off."
"It was nice meeting you, Allie."
"Yeah yeah take your chips."
"No I'm-"
"Take them, dammit!" Her yelp was short and powerful enough to make Darren pick them up as he follows me out of the dorm.
"I missed you so much Savannah." After the tour and showing him my favorite sushi place on campus, we decided to sit on a park bench and talk. The entire time I had a big knot in my stomach trying to think up the perfect way to tell him. Truthfully I wasn't sure how Darren would handle the news and I was terrified.
"Darren I'm so glad you came to see me. You have no idea how much that meant to me and-"
"I love you." He cuts me off, typical. He never let me finish what I was going to say because he always felt like he knew where I was going with things. Either that, or he simply didn't care. He leans in to kiss me but his phone ringtone stops him in the middle of it. "I got to take this." He walks away with the phone pressed up harshly to his ear.
I sigh in relief. I kick my feet as I wait for him to come back, the anticipation was killing me slowly.
After what seemed forever, Darren came back looking like he just saw a ghost. "I got to go Savannah, I'm sorry."
I throw myself to him quickly trying to latch on. I had him here, I needed to tell him what happened. If I didn't say anything at this moment, he was going to leave and I would miss my chance to say anything to him. I couldn't tell him over the phone, I would feel even worse for it. "Just let me finish before you go. Please."
My eyes were wide as I gripped onto him put without any remorse, he pulls back. "I'm sorry, I got to go." Darren jogs away and I miss my chance. The feeling of regret creeped up my spine slowly. I knew I should've went, ran up to him said it and left. Unfortunately that would not have done anything, once Darren was doing something, that was it. He would've left and pretended like he never heard me.
"I can't win." I whisper quietly to myself sitting on the bench alone and some what cold on this 90 degree day.
A/N: Originally, this chapter was going to be Savannah and James on their first date. However, I decided to use this chapter to build up suspense a little bit. Also, now we got a little more drama and it's not as predictable ;) let me know what you think!
