James POV

"Samantha!. Samantha, I'm home."

My legs work faster than my brain as I grab my shirt and my jeans. I examine the woman in her bed as I hear the footsteps of her boyfriend get closer to the room. Not that I was afraid of confrontation, I just wasn't in the mood for it. "I had a wonderful time." I smirk at myself, shrugging at why I would even say that knowing she was fast asleep from the fun of last night, "Call me, yeah? Matter of fact, please call me. Come knocking on my door begging for me whenever you please." I taunt, it felt nice not having a girl cling to me before we part ways for once.  "My address is 102 sherman rd. Not too far from here. Just hit me up. And if you want to call, it's 1800kissmyass." I felt amused saying anything to this woman, knowing she wouldn't even care that I wouldn't be here when she woke. I dart out of the window quickly, hanging off of it and bracing the lengthy drop before I let go.

Walking towards my apartment, I couldn't get my mind off of last night. Assuming that she would be happier with her actual boyfriend, I attempted to forget about Savannah. Although the booze didn't make me forget forever, it did numb the pain for awhile. The several block walk seemed like an hour as the internal pain I was feeling slowly crept back on me. Not just Savannah, but also ignoring my mother. If it wasn't for the way I felt about her, I would have never let her back into my life. Someone who was good for my mind and soul seemed to never care about me in the first place.

Ring ring ring

Forgetting it even existed, I briefly pulled my phone out of my pants pocket to see the letters that spelled out "mom".

"Can't you just leave me alone?" My phone felt like it could crumble in my hand. I begin to walk quicker, my breathing gets heavier as my face turns hot. Whatever she wanted to talk to me about, I was not in the mood for.

"James? Hey. It's Haley. Please please come over. I know you're mad at mom but please come over." Her voice is shaky and sounded like she had just got done crying. My face turned ice pale at the sound of her scared voice, I knew something wasn't right.

"Whatever it is, I'll be right there. Don't you worry Haley just sit tight."

The world was spinning as I saw my mother lie on the floor, her face as still without expression. Haley sat next to her on the floor, stroking her cheek and crying into her hair. I had never been around my mother that long, but I didn't want to see something like this happen to her. Haley held onto me tight as the paramedics took her body to the gernie to haul her to the ER.

"Would you two like to ride in the ambulance?"

I stood stone still, shaking my head slowly. "She's got school tomorrow and I have to find out where my dead beat step dad is." I respond coldly, not caring what my step-sister might hear. If her childhood was anything like mine, she's heard worse. "My mother is going to be okay though, right?"

The paramedic discarded my reassurance. "Not sure."
