"Pick up the damn phone!" The many heads that turn their way to see what the ruckus was about didn't bother me as I was on the 20th voicemail to Katie. My feet press harder onto the pavement with the next step I make. After I  had went to the advisers office and signed up to be a writing major, I had went to one of the many job interviews I had signed up for this week. I continue to call Katie as I make my way back to my car, not thinking about the previous interview I had. Usually, most people would be excited to hear back the news but the only phone call I wanted at this point was Katie.

"James what do you want?" Katie sounded quite furious through the phone. Being as many times as I called, I couldn't really blame that but I needed to talk to her.

"Oh good Katie you picked up! I wanted to discuss something with you. When do you get home?"

"In a few days. Whatever it is can wait. I'm busy, James." Before I could protest, the loud sound of the beep had stung my ear.

"Damn it!" I throw my phone to the backseat and start driving furiously down the road. I scan the rear view mirror to find that my phone landed on the backpack I had brought with me. I was on my way to see Savannah today. I wanted her to read my next poem I had been working on and I needed to ask her a few questions about a class I was going to be taking the next semester.

Knock knock knock

"Savannah open the door!"

"Who is it?" A mans voice on the other side of the door called over to me.

"Just open the door man" I studied the ceiling as I heard him get up from his seat and open the door slowly. Before me stood a tall lanky guy I had never seen around campus before. He didn't even look remotely familiar.

"Is anyone here?"

"Nah man I've just been waiting here for Savannah." The guy replies a bit shyly. He's got a pencil behind his ear and what appears to be paint splatters on his dark blue shirt.

"Oh do you have class with her or something? It's funny because usually people are here for Allie." I chuckle a bit at my statement. I found it amusing that I had already known so much about Allie and Savannah.

"Actually, she's my girlfriend."

My stomach drops as I examine the guy before me again. It took everything in me to not punch the living daylights out of this nerd.

"So can I leave a message?"

"Yeah tell her to go screw herself. Have fun with your cheater." I slam the door and get in my car to drive off. The humiliation that had over taken me was immense.

"James." My mother sounded weak on the other end. I firmly held the phone up to my ear, not giving my full attention to the sound waves that spill from the other end.

"What is it?"

"I need to talk to you, dear. I should've told you sooner but I need to talk to you." Her voice pleaded, much like she used to do before we made amends. I wanted to stop the car, turn around and drive over there. I wanted to cuddle in my mothers arms and cry myself to sleep. I wanted to listen to everything she had to tell me and be there for her like I should have all along. If it wasn't for what I just been through, I would have. The amount of betrayal I just felt from Savannah made me vulnerable.

"You know what. I wish I had never let you back in my life. You did this to me. Everything wrong with me is your fault. Don't ever talk to me again." I throw my phone furiously on the floorboard, watching the back and battery fly off as I slam my hand on the steering wheel. I knew I would regret my decision.
