My body stands frozen, holding the vase gently between my palms, Max's warm breath whispers across my exposed neck as he glances over my shoulder, my mind trying desperately to come up with an explanation, but I come up with nothing.
"Oh look. There's an envelope." Max reaches around my frozen frame, his figure close enough to mine that I feel the heat from his warm body against my back, Yasmin snatches the envelope from under Max's fingertips, tearing it open carefully before reading the note out loud.
"A flower cannot bloom without sunshine and a man cannot live without love. B." For what seems like an eternity we all stand frozen in the hall, my heart yearning, anger bubbles through my veins again. Why now? Forcing my legs to move I place the vase softly onto the sideboard before walking silently to the stairs, my hand touches the bannister when Max's voice resonates through the quiet.
"Do you want to talk about it?" My fingers grip the polished wood tightly, taking a deep breath I step onto the stairs.
"No, im going to shower." My tone cuts off the conversation as I ascend the stairs, my mind whirring, my heart torn again. Closing my bedroom door I lay my forehead against the cool wood, the temptation to hit my head a few times on the wood is strong, resisting the urge I head into the bathroom. What is happening? Stripping quickly I step into the shower, the hot water races over my skin as the steam catches me in its embrace, drifting over my sensitive skin. Wrapping in a towel I throw myself backwards onto my bed, the tulip laying on the sheet bounces in sync with my movement, rolling onto my stomach I grab the flowers stem, holding it infront of my face, studying the soft white petals. Why this flower? Reaching under the bed I grab my laptop, flipping it open I wait impatiently while it starts up, stroking the petals absentmindedly. Finally the screen flares to life, my fingers swiftly glide across the keys typing quickly into the internet search bar. White tulip flower meanings. Clicking enter I wait for the search, scrolling down I choose a link, my eyes flying across the screen reading the words.
"White tulip mean pure and innocence but are also associated with love. Pure and perfect love. Another meaning is forgiveness, a way to say youre sorry." Sighing in frustration I close the laptop, pushing it across the bed with the tulip. This is just too strange.
The day passes in a blur, the vase sits next to the other one, my kitchen table getting covered in tulips, their scent is enticing and the petals softness keep reminding me of my dream, so I have tried to avoid the kitchen as much as possible. Max and Yasmin are currently playing COD in the livingroom as I lay across the sofa laughing at Max trying to keep his cool because Yasmin is around, normally he swears like a sailor but I admire him for his control when Yasmin is around. He will be a great father one day, of that I am sure. Throwing the book down that I have attempted to read for hours but havent managed to concentrate on it.
"You okay?" Max asks, not taking his eyes from the screen.
"Yeah, im going to go out for a couple of drinks though. Feeling restless."
"Okay, if youre sure, just ... you son of a b... biscuit ... go and have fun Lara." Flouncing from the sofa I head to my room, rummaging through my wardrobe, picking out a short white dress with lace overlay, slipping on my white heels with a bow at the back. Sitting at my dresser I curl my hair, the soft ringlets frame my face, applying some gold glitter eyeshadow, I line my eyes with liquid black eyeliner, mascara coating my lashes, sweeping the gloss wand across my lips, pouting slightly, the pink glitter finishing my look. Twirling in the mirror, my confidence rocketing, grabbing a small gold clutch bag I slip my phone inside along with £50 and my lipgloss. Walking confidently down the stairs I feel eyes on me, lifting my head my gaze is captured by Max's wide eyes.
