"Care to explain where we are going to?" I gazed at him as his eyes are concentrated on the road. The road was deserted, beams of sunlight was making its way between the trees.
Instead of replying to me, he switched on the radio. Some crappy old songs cut through the silence. It was totally not an awkward one but more to, uncomfortable.
"You know, we have a cafeteria in our school, since you're new and stuff," I peered at him once again.
He laughed humorlessly. "I know there is a cafeteria, Reana. I'm not that new." I just ignored his remark to everything I said.
"This song is awful. What a distasteful taste you have."
I moved my hand to the button to change the tracks. No sooner had I touched the button, he stopped me with his hand on mine.
"Don't. The song is not to please you but me. " His reply was blunt.
"I thought we have passed the i-hate-you stage."
"We did, but that doesn't mean I like you." What the hell, I thought. This guy had some serious issue here.
I didn't notice that we arrived until he pulled over outside a coffeeshop which was located at the outskirt of the town. I had never been here before, that was for sure. I gazed up to look at the sign, it said Annie's Coffee. That sounded homey, I thought.
"Come on," he said as he got out of the car. Looking at my watch, I noticed we had one hour more before school started.
"We have to be quick or else we'll be late for school,"I told him as I catched up with his pace.
"Loosen up, Reana. Being late for school once doesn't kill."
I stopped him. "In case you don't know, I have a good reputation at school and I am on full intention of not smearing it until I graduated."
"Oh, I know. You and your record," he stated as he pushed the entrance into the coffee shop. With a step in, I was overwhelmed by the earthly smell of coffee lingering in the air.
Instantly, he was embraced by a woman who came out from the counter.
"Oh dear Alexander, I have not seen you in so long. How many years have it been? Two? Three?" She counted. "Look at me, I have aged so bad that I don't remember." I chuckled at her statement as I found her hilarious.
She was an old woman, I presumed, with the grayish bun and wrinkled face.
He returned her hug. "Sarah, it's been a while. And no, you still have that spirit. Like the young person you are." I stood awkwardly behind him, looking at their exchange.
Something obviously caught my attention. It seemed like Alexander was not even new here. He had been dropping hints since day one and I was foolish enough to not catch them.
"And who is the beautiful young lady? You guys look so good-"I didn't even let her finish as I continued. "I am Ireana, Alexander's friend." I smiled as I shook her hand.
"Oh, she is Ireana!"She said proudly which left me wondering what was going on. "Excuse me mam, I am sorry but what is going on?"
"You should ask this boy," someone called after her. "I am sorry, there are some orders. I have to sort them. I'll send yours soon enough dear." With that, she walked away.
"What the heck was that Alexander?" I sat at the booth near the window. He took a seat right in front of me.
"Nothing."
"That wasn't nothing. Sarah clearly knows me."
"Everyone knows you."
"Can you answer properly?"
