Fionna POV
"My dad," Marshall answered.
I was kind of confused. Marshall never talks about his family very much and the only thing he ever told me was that his mom is horrible. I guess he saw how puzzled my face looked and started explaining.
"Well, I guess I should tell you what happened."
Marshall POV
I really didn't want to talk about my dad but since Fionna is my best friend I guess I should tell her. And maybe it would also make me feel better if I just let it out.
"It was hundreds of years ago when I was still a little child..."
**FLASHBACK**
I walked around the castle to look for something to do. It gets really boring since I don't have that many friends and even if I had any they're not allowed in the castle because of my mom. I miss my dad.
My parents are divorced but my dad comes to visit me every once in a while. I'm very close to my father he's fun to be around. It's never boring around him but he can also be understanding.
My mom is more strict. She never lets me do anything because she thinks it might hurt her reputation. She doesn't really care about me much. To her I'm just some annoying kid.
I usually don't have a problem though because my dad visits me almost every third day but lately he hasn't come. The last time I've seen him was one and a half months ago. Also my mom is marrying another guy. The Vampire King. He is a total jerk but my mom acts like he's the perfect man.
But I guess it's not my problem who she dates and marries. I just kept walking around until I heard someone yell my name. I realized it was my mom and quickly went to the throne room, where she usually is.
"What do you want, mom?" I asked in a polite tone so I wouldn't anger her in case she was already angry.
"I need you to go to your room and stay there until tomorrow. Servants will bring you something to eat, don't worry. Now go!" she told me before two of her servants came and lead me to my room.
Hours passed and I just lazily laid in my bed wondering why my mom would want me to stay in here. I kept asking questions in my head but got interrupted by a loud scream. I curiously looked out of the window to look where the sound was coming from but I found nothing.
I slowly opened my door making sure nobody was paying attention to me. I walked down the hallway only to hear another scream. I ran towards the noise and stopped at a door that was slightly open. I heard a third scream and I knew it came from behind that door.
I was to scared to open it but then finally just did it anyways.
What I saw before me changed my life forever.
There was my father on the floor laying in a pool of his own blood. Next to him stood the man my mom was supposed to get married to. Both, The Vampire King and my dad, realized I was there and looked towards me.
"What do you want, weakling? Can't you see I'm busy? Any last words for your son before I finish you off?" he asked my dad.
"I love you, Marshall. Don't you ever forget that, ok," he said weakly. Those were his last words before the Vampire King fished him off by stabbing his heart with a knife.
After that I ran away. I never want to be in this hell hole again. I opened a portal and left everything behind me.
**END OF FLASHBACK**
"After I escaped I lived my own life," I gave Fionna a sad smile. She walked towards me and gave me a hug and I hugged her back. We stayed like this for a while until we both let go.
"I just got one question. I thought you were the Vampire King why did you call him the Vampire King?" she asked.
"Well, when I got older I was way more powerful so I went back and well...you know," I answered not wanting to finish the sentence. Maybe she thinks I'm a monster now.
"It's ok Marshall. You can't change what you did. But you're a better person now. I'll always be there for you."
"Thanks, Fionna."
