Lexi came in the doorway. She greeted us in a comically high-pitched, sing-song voice. I yelped and pulled away from Alex in my fright. I looked at him with shocked eyes and we wiped the glistening tears off our wet faces. I cuddled into his protective embrace, never wanting to leave it.

"I just wanted to make sure our little hero was all right,"Lexi giggled.

I frowned into Alex's shoulder.

"I'm not a hero," I muttered.

I had a terrible problem: I just couldn't take any compliments. Ever.

"He's joking, right?"

She sounded serious for the first time in all the time that I had known her. Lexi invaded my space, so I squeaked and backed into Alex, who wrapped his steely arms around me tightly. Her blue eyes stared at me and she picked up my hand as if it was the most delicate thing on earth.

"My misguided children might be severely burnt or even dead if it weren't for you. They are perfectly happy, if a bit upset with their father. I really can't thank you enough, Xander."

"Um, I'm sure someone would have eventually smelled the smoke," I uneasily whispered as I avoided her gaze.

"The way we were making out in the kitchen, I doubt it," She said under her breath.

She noticed my uncomfortable blush and gasped.

"Is that why you went upstairs? Because we were making you uncomfortable?"

"No, I just didn't want to bother you guys," I honestly answered.

I wouldn't want to be bothered if I was kissing Alex like that. Lexi smiled at me and ruffled my golden hair.

"You're a sweetheart. I'm glad Alex found you. I just came to tell you that you've been sleeping for the past eighteen hours. I wanted to make sure you hadn't slipped into a coma or something."

I gaped at her in shock.

"I slept for eighteen hours?" I shrieked.

Alex chuckled behind me. Lexi informed me that it was fine, what with all the smoke I had inhaled.

"Anyway, Blake and I decided we were going to buy the kid's new clothes today, and I know you need some, so we are all going shopping together!"

She giggled and clapped her hands together in glee.

"Also, I know you guys haven't had a real date, so I'm packing a picnic for us and one for you two. We're having a family day! Xander, please, don't be too freaked out if the kids refer to you as their uncle or ask lots of questions."

I blinked and tried to take in all this new information.

"Um, I'll try my best, but you do know that I don't have any money with me, right? I'll have to go find my car and get my wallet."

Lexi laughed at me. Her black curls bounced.

"Silly, we can pay for you."

My eyes widened at their generosity, but I couldn't accept their money after all they had done for me.

"You don't have to-" I tried to protest.

"But we will," Lexi firmly finished.

She left and called behind her,"Hurry up and get dressed."

I relaxed into Alex as he placed a sweet kiss on my shoulder.

"I love you, sweetheart," We both whispered at the same time and then laughed afterwards.
