Chapter 24

Tammy's POV

"T?"

"T...?"

"Tammy!" Danny screamed to get my attention.

I turned to him with a flustered look on my face. "Huh?" was all I could mutter.

"Nothing, I just thought this was the perfect time to tell you how I felt about you..." He nervously replied, his voice faltering at the end.

Everything about this left me in utter shock. I had a hunch that Danny liked me but not to this extent. I never really thought he was capable of doing all these cheesy stuff or acting upon it. He was never the guy who did grand romantic gestures for a girl. He was too shy for that. But I guess things change, people change.

"Well?" He prodded, snapping me out of my thoughts and bringing me back to reality.

"Well what?" I asked. I honestly didn't know what to say to him. My mind was all a mush after the stunt he pulled. I probably looked like a lost kid in a public mall looking for her mom. This was all too much. I felt so lost. Everything was happening all at once.

"Don't you have anything to say?"

"Honestly, I don't know what to say. This is all new to me. It's confusing. I mean, we're friends. You're my best friend and –" I started rambling until he cut me off.

"Okay, how 'bout this? Don't say anything just yet. The night is still young. Let's just hang out as best friends tonight." He bargained, giving me a reassuring smile. "Sounds good?"

I smiled and nodded, "Sounds good."

He slung his arm over my shoulder as we walked through the crowded area of the fair. I gave him a side hug and said, "I missed you, D." I honestly did miss him. We haven't talked or hung out like we used to since I was too caught up with Blake.

My eyes met his as soon he nudged me on the side. His face lit up into a huge grin, "I missed you too, T. Always."

I giggled. "Okay, stop with the cheesiness now."

He raised his eyebrow and said, "Hey, you started it."

"Whatever." I stuck my tongue out at him in an immature way when I heard Danny laugh.

"Real mature, T. Now, come on! It's time for you to experience the real fun fair with the most fun person ever – me." He said and winked at me. I rolled my eyes at his egoistic remark.  "Now, let's get your mind off of that undeserving prick."

Right here, right now, I thought about forgetting everything – the pain, the bittersweet memories and the guy who hurt me. Maybe, just maybe, this was all I needed – a time to get my mind off of things.

***

"C'mon, T! Stop being a wuss and hop in."

"Never in a million years." I pouted, crossing my arms over my chest like a five year old.

I was never going to ride that Ferris wheel. They're like roller coasters and I have seen Final Destination and I will never ever risk my life and die that way. I'm probably over-reacting but hey, I always take precautionary measures. I value my life way too much... even though it may throw tons of curveballs along the way.

"Seriously? This is totally safe. Look at all the people enjoying the ride." He stated dramatically, gesturing towards the couple cuddling, little kids crying, and teenage boys ogling at girls wearing mini shorts down below.

I scrunched up my nose in disgust. "Oh, they really look like they're enjoying alright." I replied, my sarcastic tone evident in every word.

"Okay, let's play a game then. If I win, we ride the Ferris wheel. But if you win, you can pick any ride you want." He offered, looking at me with a wide grin on his face. Oh boy, I'm definitely not liking the sound of this.
