Kate's POV
I never left her side all day... I felt safe with her. I know that she was not letting me go back home even though I need to get more clothes.
We saw Jake every now and then, but he steered clear of us. She never even let me go to the bathroom by myself. It was like the damn secret service.
The class before school ended, I had to go to the bathroom. Catie was still taking her test so she couldn't go. I exited the classroom without her knowing, and walked, more so limped, to the nearest bathroom.
"Nice to see you again..." That damn voice.
"What Jake?" I turned around facing him.
"Where's your girlfriend?" Jake taunted.
"She isn't my girlfriend." I snapped.
"Oh really? Why do you follow her around like a lost puppy then?" He put his hands behind his back, something he always does when he is about to hit me.
"Because she protects me from you asshole!" I tried to stay strong, but I faltered and took a step back. Where are the teachers? Maybe even a random student? Anyone?
"Oh, so you are finally standing up for yourself now?" He chuckled at my attempt.
With one quick motion his hand came across my face, causing me to fall to the floor.
"Oh, you poor thing. Need some help getting up?" He said as he crouched down to my level.
I punched him in the temple, but he didn't budge.
"It felt like a mouse." He mocked.
"Jake! Back off!" Catie's voice roared through the hallway.
"Oh, there she is, your knight in shining armor." He said with a sickening smile.
I sighed in relief, but I knew it wasn't over yet. He picked me up by my hair, holding me out to his side. I whimpered in pain and tried to get out of his grasp, but his grip is too tight for my weak arms.
Catie darted at Jake, tackling him to the ground which caused him to drop me.
She was punching his face over and over again, not once missing a beat. Jesus... she's gonna kill him.
"Catie stop!" I screamed from the floor as I regained my footing.
She didn't budge. I tried to pull her off to no avail. Jesus is she all muscle? I wedged myself between the two. Making her stop because if she didn't she'd hit me. She had cold expression that was enough to make anyone fear her.
"C-catie?"
Blood was dripping from her knuckles. She shook her head and realized what just happened.
"Shit are you okay?" She stepped closer to me. I pushed myself away from her, eventually hitting the wall. "I'm not going to hurt you." Catie's expression and tone immediately changed when I cowered from her.
"I've never seen that look in anyone's eyes before." I whispered in a scared tone.
Her head dropped, looking at her feet with her arms hanging by her sides. Jake got up and ran, the look reappeared in her eyes, but I snapped her out of it again.
"Catie, no. He's not worth it." I stopped her.
"I'm sorry." She walked over to me with her head bowed in shame and picked my up from under my arms so she could help me to the bathroom. She just rested her hands in the sink and watched the water turn red. I quickly did what I came out here to begin with and washed my hands.
