I gasped as my foot slipped on the corner of a floating platform. "Ben!!" I heard someone scream. Ali. I fell and grabbed the platform at the last possible moment. My heartbeat was running at a million beats per second. I can't let myself be so careless again, I thought. One misstep...one half a misstep and I'll be dead. I'll be Fusion food. I shook my head to clear the thoughts as I heaved my other hand up and pulled myself onto the platform.

I gasped for breath and looked over the edge. My head spun. I wasn't so good with heights either. It's a good thing this wasn't a roller-coaster. My stomach would be all over the place. I looked over to other group members who had stopped to watch, some whose hands were over their faces. "I'm all good!" I called, grinning and trying to hide my shaking body. I stood up and took a deep breath.

"Hey," I called out. "Anyone else wonder how these platforms are floating and moving??"

"I have a theory..." Ashton called back, leaping from one to another. "You can see bits of land floating in the air similarly, right?"

"Yeah!" Luke shouted, shooting down a Tech Wing that had spotted us and began to rise up to our height.

"Well," Ashton continued, "I think that Planet Fusion is literally tearing bits out of the earth. And so these platforms rise because of the gravitational clash between our two planets. The gravities pull on them, causing them to stop mid-air."

I thought about this. It made a lot of sense. The platforms were still closer to Earth because Fusion was still quite far away.

"What about the moving though?" Sherylann called. I saw Ashton shrug.

Jackson laughed. "It's the Fusion Matter!" He exclaimed.

"The Fusion...?" Niko said, dodging a blast of energy from another Tech Wing. Man, those things were everywhere in this Infected Zone.

"Yeah!" Jackson said. "The Fusion Matter is sentient right? It's how it can find compatible objects to fuse with and create these monsters. So...maybe it's like baby Matter, only half developed."

"I get it!" Andrew called, jumping down onto one of the spires. I realized how close we were. Andrew continued, however. "It can only do so much, so the...er...'baby Matter', moves the zero-grav platforms around, sideways, up and down, even spinning them."

"Spinning them indeed!" Blake called. He clambered over a platform that was doing just that, nearly sliding off. It was kind of rediculous.

Soon, we all reached the flag, placing a hand on it simultaneously. A loud beep sounded, and our NanoComs blipped. We pulled them out. Another message from Dexter.

Congratulations! You were much faster than I predicted. Now, when you exit the Infected Zone, you will receive your Unstable Nano. An interface will appear showing three options that you can choose. But only one. What you choose will program that power into the Nano, and it will be able to employ it on command. But beware, it will take Imaginary Energy from you. After three hours of being active, the Nano will automatically deconstruct and return to your NanoCom. That is where you can find your Nano collection. You can only carry three with you at all times though. These Coms are not without storage space limit. He laughed. Heroes have been posted all over the world. Be careful, some areas are much more dangerous, with stronger Fusions inhabiting them. But when you find a Hero, see what missions they have. You can create more Nanos!

Farewell friends! Good luck!

The hologram dissipated. "Well..." I said, looking down at the teleportation pad and sighing.

"What the heck?" Jacob said. We all had these...It's hard to describe. The Unstable Nano looked like it was made purely of Fusion Matter. But when we touched it, it didn't burn, didn't hurt. It just made a squelching noise and jiggled like jell-o. Many of the girls adored them. The Nano itself looked like a little person, in a sort of manga-chibi style. It had no features however. It had tiny blobs of Matter floating around it. They floated there, circling our heads every little bit.

I stared at the holographic panel that floated in front of my face

I stared at the holographic panel that floated in front of my face. It had three choices;

Leech -> Point

Drain -> Area

Guard

Above the options, it declared in red, Blastons.

"Anyone know what any of these do?" Brandon asked. Everyone shrugged or said 'Dunno'.

"Well..." I started. "What we could do, is have everyone pick a different one, so we have a variety of each. And we can try them each out to see what they do." Everyone nodded. I point to my left. "Those who will choose Guard, stand there." Sherylann, Hailey, Ashton, Luke, and Alexis walked over to the spot. "Drain, here." I pointed to my right. Daniel, Aiden, Jackson, Rebecca, Andrew, David, Brandon, and Marcus moved over. "Everyone else to me. We'll do Leech." Ali, Blake, Aiden, Niko, Chris, Luke, Rebecca, Jayven, and Tony surrounded me.

I moved my finger over the "Leech -> Point" tab and pushed it. The Nano stopped mid-shenanigans and froze, glowed, then continued moving. I cocked and eyebrow. "So what do you do then?" I muttered. I turned to a nearby Tech Tunneler and pointed at it. The Nano looked at me, then at the monster and nodded. It raised its tiny arms and thrust them forwards, hands splayed out. The small spheres of Matter flew towards the Tunneler and circled it. A faint green light shone between them, latching onto the monster. It stopped and began spazzing out, like it's electronics were fried. I felt my own energy replenished, as if I had slept for a day. Most of the scratches and bruises in my skin disappeared.

"Huh." I said. "So it literally leeches life from the Fusions, and heals us. That's pretty awesome."

"So then what do the others' do?" Tony asked.

"Let's see!" David said. He pointed at the Tech Tunneler. His Nano looked at the monster, looked at him, like mine had...

And then fell to the ground and started dancing around. Everyone burst into laughter.

"What...the...heck?" Ashton said, wiping a tear from his eye and clutching his stomach. David just stood there looking confused. Hailey tried to command hers to do something, in which it began to pick its nose. If it had one. I mean, there was just a little lump where it should have been. Anyway, everyone starting trying to command their Nanos to do something, but all of them had started doing random things. My own Nano wasn't doing anything anymore either. All it was doing was hitting me on the head with its' tiny fists.

Eventually someone's did do something. It raised it's arms to the sky and a large ring of faint white light surrounded us. We stepped forward and the ring moved with the Nano. "So that's what Drain does..." Aiden said. "But what does it do to a Fusion?"

"Again, let's see." Daniel said. He pushed Aiden forward until the ring barely enveloped the Tech Tunneler. It slowly started to drill the ground slower. It swung its arms like it was tired. "It's like Leech, except slower." Alexis observed.

"Yeah," Luke said. "These guys are useful, but still annoying."
