01: CHAPTER ONETHE time has come.
With pushed back shoulders and a sigh, I head into my new room for what it seems like the next few years or so. "You're a very lucky young girl, you know," Mrs. Nixon says from behind me.
I twist around to face her and force myself to smile. Of course I already knew that. This once in a lifetime opportunity is possibly the sole reason why I haven't been driven to a point of insanity, I think.
I make sure to thank her on her way out of my dorm room. After all, this academy is all about etiquette and social norms.
Pinewood Academy. Possibly the most luxurious school in this country, and the hardest to get into. How I managed to land myself a spot here is incredible. To this day, I still have certain thoughts of incredulity and sheer disbelief. After all, its ranked number one top academy in Australia, and it provides a range of different courses.
Well, you know what they say. Hard work always pays off. Nothing in this world comes without a price, and boy this school is sure as hell pricey. If I wasn't here on scholarship, I'd unfortunately still be a bitter student at Grandview High School — trying and failing miserably at attaining friends and suffering a toxic home life.
But alas, I tend to not dwell on the past too much. I'm here. This is real. I'm here and I sure as hell am going to make it worth the blood, sweat and tears I shed last year.
After unpacking most my clothing and taking a glimpse of the spacious room several times, I heave out a deep breath and check the time on my iPhone. Lunch is to be served at roughly 12:45, and it's already 12:30 so I figure I'd make my way over to the cafeteria.
On the bright side of things, this school offers a uniform that consists of a striped navy skirt or pants and a white collared shirt. To top it off is a navy jumper, and on cold days a navy rain jacket. I knew I'd grow tired of the colour navy soon. Scholarship kids get a discount on the uniform, so thankfully I didn't have to spend much. I can't complain much anyway, since I utterly detested my lack of uniform in my last school. It was truly tiring having to show up everyday wearing something new or trendy; especially when you're broke like me.
As soon as I'm done changing into my white blouse that I tuck underneath my skirt, I step into my black leather shoes and head out. The black stockings that I'm wearing start to rub uncomfortably against my skin, and I try my best not to waddle around as I glimpse down at my phone. On the school website it reads that the cafeteria is located near the 300's building.
I have no idea where that is though.
There is a mixture of students around me, and I figure I'd just wing it and follow them. I basically stick out like a sore thumb, with me looking over my shoulder every second or so and constantly looking down at my phone. The crowd soon disperses into a variety of directions and I begin to internally panic as I glance around.
