36: CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX

"HURRY up!"

Jeez. I throw my phone onto the bed and resume braiding my hair.

"Was that Crystal?" Ethan leans against the doorway of my room.

"Yeah. I'll be out in a second, I promise."

Ethan provides a curt nod, and after that he stalks out of the room. I apply some clear lipgloss before heading out the empty apartment. Ethan must be in the car already.

True to his words, Ethan is seated in the driver's seat already. I slither into the passenger seat and prop my purse on my lap. "Alright, I'm done."

"After a thousand years," Ethan mutters as he switches on the car. This earns him a halfhearted glare.

A little while later, the vehicle slows to a stop in front of Crystal's house. There is an anxious feeling clawing at the pit of my stomach as I stare through the window at the house. Just a week ago, I was here. The thought makes me shudder.

"You okay?" Ethan looks over at me.

I breathe out a sigh and nod my head. "Yeah. I'm okay."

"Let me know when you guys are done so I can come pick you up," Ethan speaks up.

I unclasp my seatbelt. "It's in the city. You're going to drive all that way to pick me up?"

He's wearing sunglasses so I can't tell what his expression is. He shrugs and, "It's not like I have anything better to do."

"You've become a really boring person," I joke as I throw my bag over my shoulder. "Why don't you go out with one of your friends?"

He grumbles, "I'm going out with Christian. Now get out of my car." He smiles to the end of his sentence so I know not to take it to heart. I'm smiling, too. I scramble out of the car and head to the front door before I do something foolish, like kiss his cheek.

He rolls the window down and adjusts his sun glasses. "Have fun!" he calls. I wave at him and then he speeds off.

I knock on the front door and await for a response. The driveway is empty meaning Crystal's parents must be out. She did tell me beforehand that they were on a date.

A short while later, the door swings open in which I spent it shivering from the cold. Dylan stands on the other side with a can of beer in his hand. "Hey," he greets me with a small smile. His hair is damp and there's a blue towel slung around his neck.
