07: CHAPTER SEVEN"WE'RE GETTING vaccinations tomorrow!"
I raise my eyebrows as I listen to the hushed conversation of Makayla and Taylor beside me. It's a sunny Wednesday morning and I'm sitting in home group alone in a table behind them as there were no spots on the table for me.
I'm in the midst of flipping through my Biology text book when a figure drops them self beside me. The person leans in and presses a wet kiss to my cheek and I almost choke on my own spit in my haste to turn around. My surprised expression drops into a frown once I realise it's Ethan. "What the hell was that for?" I hiss.
"We're dating, remember?" Ethan deadpans. I release a lengthy sigh and nod my head slowly.
"Right. How could I forget?" I mutter mostly to myself than to him.
Ethan beside me scoffs. "You'd think you'd be a little more grateful than that," he said bitterly. We both glare at each other a little too heatedly.
"Trouble in paradise?" Our glaring contest was interrupted by Taylor's nasally voice. I tighten my grip on the pages of my textbook and shoot her a tight-lipped smile.
"No, nothing like that. My girl never annoys me," Ethan speaks up, throwing an arm around the back of my chair but making sure not to touch me. I tense up, and turn my head around to check and see if Josh is watching.
Not a single glance.
Ethan must've noticed my change in expression as he turns around and follows my train of vision. Once he realises what I've been staring at, he throws his head back and falls into fits of laughter. "You're ridiculous," is all he says.
"How?" I just frown in response.
"You're chasing after a guy who'd never give you the time of his day," he points out in a matter-of-fact tone.
I purse my lips and stare at him through narrowed eyes. "Mind your own business, yeah?"
He mocks my accent to himself quietly as he doodles into his notebook. As soon as the bell rings for first period, I'm the first one to jump out of my seat and head for the door. Ethan follows behind me languidly, his hands shoved into the pockets of his pants. Him walking me to class has suddenly become a little tradition of ours.
"What do you have next period?" I ask him in an attempt to make conversation.
Ethan barely offers me a glance. "None of your business, sweetheart," he responds.
