CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE
THE pounding on the door interrupts me while I'm in the middle of doing my homework. Trust our teachers to give us homework over break.
I get up from my unmade bed and peep through the door hole. A frowning Ethan stands on the other side of the door. I quickly rush back inside, spritz on some perfume, and then dash back to the door and open it. Ethan blinks at me. He looks like he hasn't sleep in years. He has a leather jacket haphazardly thrown over his stained shirt and he's holding his backpack in his arms. "Move," he says to me in a weary voice.
I lean my hip against the doorway and deny him further access into my dorm. "Not until you gimme a hug. You look like a homeless dog."
A scowl transforms his face at this. "I'm not in the mood for this. Get out of my way," he mutters and tries to side step me.
I lift my arms up for him and try a wide smile. "You know you want to," I start in a sing-song voice. This earns me a flat look in response and Ethan reaches forward to swat my hands down.
"Allison," he growls. "Let me in, yeah?"
"Not until you turn that frown upside down!" I reach forward and put my hands on either side of his mouth, lifting it up. He gives a blank stare in return, and this makes me pout. "I'm not letting you in until I make sure you're okay, and you know what they say, a hug a day keeps the depression away!"
It's apparent Ethan is fighting back a smile. He glances away and bites down on his bottom lip. He gives up on hiding his smile and rolls his eyes at me. "There, you happy?"
My arms are still held up at my sides. When Ethan comes to the realisation that I'm not budging, he tips his head back and groans. "You're so annoying..."
"Annoying is my middle name," I chirp and wiggle my fingers at him. He swears under his breath, and then takes a step closer, wrapping his arms around me in a loose hug. Inspite of the heaviness in my chest, I feel my heart flutter at the feeling of his warm body pressed up against mine. "See, that wasn't so hard, was it?"
Ethan finally takes a step back and releases me. "You smell good," he mumbles. "Let me in now. It's cold outside."
"Right, in you go." I make a swooping gesture and step out of his way. He could've easily moved around me considering his height but I think he likes to argue with me. Either that, or he really needed a hug.
The thought makes me smile giddily.
"Go to the kitchen. I've got some snacks prepared for us!" I throw my blonde hair into a bun and then gallop after Ethan into the kitchen.
