02: CHAPTER TWO

"IS anyone sitting here?"

My head shoots up and I find myself glancing at Phoebe. I shake my head and she offers a small smile before sitting down beside me. To my right is Ethan Marshall, and instead of doing the Chemistry work assigned to us like a normal person, he has his earphones plugged in and I can hear the sound of his music playing.

Whatever. My fingers clack against they keyboard hastily as I search up an element. I eventually decide on Iron, and as I click on the website, an add pops up. It doesn't occur to me that it's a pornographic website until I find myself staring a pair of large breasts. A message underneath it reads 'you looking for a good time, baby?"

A gasp escapes my lips as I try to exit the page. Unfortunately my page starts to freeze up and I'm left there desperately clicking at everything and anything. My heart starts to speed up and my cheeks warm up as I hear the sound of Mrs. Justice approaching me. Oh, please let this be a dream!

"What on earth at you doing?" she cried.

"It wasn't me, I swear! I was trying to look up something—."

"I'm going to put this up on the school website, young lady. You've just lost two points," she scolds. "It's only been your first week here and you're already getting into so much trouble."

Two weeks today, actually. I hold my tongue and nod as she walks past me. The sound of Ethan's chuckles reach my ears and I almost lose it as I realise he's playing games on his computer. The teacher turns a blind eye to that and continues walking past.

Although the injustice of this situation, I quickly learned this was a regular thing at Pinewood Academy. I've learned a great deal in these past few weeks, and it doesn't help the fact that I'm a very observant person.

The rich kids who are lacking in the intelligence department to put it nicely get away with a lot of things as their parents are willing to pay for whatever damage. Ethan is one of those very people. I can tell he's smart, he just doesn't try.

Then...there's the scholarship kids like me. I wouldn't go as far as to say that I'm poor, but in contrast to all those rich influential people I might as well be considered homeless.

People like me have to work twice as hard to be recognised. I'm not complaining though; getting into this school alone was hard enough.

This past few weeks have dragged on, and were absolute hell if I may add. Everyday I'd hang out with Crystal and her cronies, and everyday I'd convince myself that I'd try to gain friends. My attempts were proven ineffectual, though. The people here are snobby and judgemental, and I don't know about you but I don't want to join a bunch of girls who talk about the latest brand and only that.
