I roll over on to my side, throwing my hand over the edge. I slowly pry my eyes open, bright sunlight rushing to them, making them burn. I rub them before opening them again and letting my eyes adjust to the light. I look at the clock on my bedside table and jump quickly off my bed. It's 7 am and I have exactly 25 minutes to be at school.
I rush to my closet to look for an outfit. I would normally have the time to slowly and carefully pick my outfit, but I slept in today. I go for my Victoria Secret yoga pants that has PINK on the waistband in bright gold and a black V-neck T-shirt paired with my sparkled Toms. My hair was a huge discombobulation on the back of my head, and that took ten minutes in itself to brush and pull back into a decent hair tie going down my back. I wasn't feeling in the mood to take more time than needed to apply my makeup, so I went without today.
I jogged down the stairs, school bag in my hand, and went straight for the kitchen. I are a protein bar and chugged a small glass of milk. I brushed my teeth quickly after and left the house. No thanks to the people that drive unbelievably slow, I had exactly four minutes to get my books from my locker and make it to first period on time.
I sprint through the halls to my locker, unlike the rest of the student body casually walking to class. I open my locker, grabbing my books as fast as I can and speed walking to Algebra II. I walk through the door and grab my seat next to Kylie just moments before the bell rang. I'm not a huge fan of mathematics or the fact that I have to take it the first period everyday. Having Kylie in here makes it a lot better than it would be if she wasn't.
"Did you have a rough morning?" Kylie asks, a knowing grin appearing on her face.
"I slept in. I must have been burned out to the point of not hearing my alarm this morning." I rub my eyes, trying to keep myself awake.
Before Kylie could respond back, Mr. Masters secures the door closed, grabbing everyone's attention.
"Alright class, let's begin with chapter 4 today. We're going to be learning how to solve complex equations." He smiles. How does one have bursting amounts of joy due to being a math teacher? This question will be unanswered for eternity.
Math didn't fly by quickly like the other two periods after. Fourth period came around and I wasn't feeling like being around Canyon when I was having such a rough morning. He would just tease me about it.
Canyon grabs the seat beside me, which isn't his. Once again, it's Ryland's. "Bad morning?" he asked.
"What do you think?" I ask sarcastically. It was a stupid question to ask when it was visible I wasn't having the best morning.
He throws his hands up in defense and faces the whiteboard where Mrs. Winston is standing. She clears her throat before speaking. "Today you will be brainstorming ideas for your paper with you partner. I've decided working together will give you a chance to bond with your partner and give you a little experience with sharing responsibilities. The story should be at least three pages long and have dialogue. It should also be descriptive enough that the reader could get a visual from the text. The project will be due in two weeks. I trust you will choose someone that is willing to put in effort to your assignment." She sits in the seat at her desk and begins grading papers, signaling for us to think about our paper with our partner.
Canyon slides his chair across the floor until it reaches my desk. Somehow I knew he would want to work with me. He wouldn't do any of the work, leaving it all to me.
I throw my book bag on the couch and plop down into the recliner, sighing of finally being able to sit in a comfortable chair. I turn the television on and relax in the chair. I yawn and my eyelids grow heavier by the second. Just as I'm dozing off, my phone rings. I glimpse at my screen, seeing that it's Carly calling me. I let the phone ring, going back to my nap.
Author's Note
I know this chapter wasn't all that great, but I don't want any one the real good stuff to happen until after chapter 10. I should have chapter 10 up on Sunday. I'm trying to get back on my schedule of updating. Also, should I make a personal Instagram and Twitter account for this book so you can see what the characters look like? I can't decide if I should or not. I hope you enjoy the chapter. Comment, vote and fan! Much love! ❤️
