Carly and I pull our chairs out from the table and take our seats. We pick up our menus at the same time, scanning through them to find what we want to order. I set my menu back on the table, seeing as I already knew what I wanted.
"Well?" Carly asks. I gave her a confused look because I have no idea what she's talking about.
"What?" I ask.
"What's it like being the chosen one of the game this year?" She asks. I wasn't anywhere near the fun parts of the game. I didn't know exactly how to answer the question.
"Canyon is annoying. As soon as you're notified of the games, the player never leaves you alone. This is the first time I've been away from him since the game started." I realized I haven't been away from him since the game. Most people think Canyon is the type of guy to wait for you to call or text him, when he's the one to call you first.
"I thought he was the guy to ignore you until he felt he should call you." She says, confused. He may have done that with other girls, but he definitely doesn't do that with me.
"No, he's the complete opposite. He's worse than a dog begging for a treat." We both laugh at my joke.
The waiter comes over to our table to take our order. Instead of a girl, this time it is a guy. He's actually quite attractive. His sand brown hair is flat going across his forehead. His brown eyes sparkle like the stars. His jawline is strong and his smile is perfect. You could tell he works out from his large biceps and the outline of his abs through his skin tight black t-shirt. If I wasn't in this game, I would love for him to take me out.
Carly and I order the same thing; a garden salad and milkshake. I love strawberry milkshakes, where as Carly prefers vanilla.
We eat our lunch and reminisce on old childhood memories. I remeber when I had the biggest crush on her brother. He was adorable when we were little. Now, he's a man whore. He is known to be a huge player in our school. He actually created the game, but I hear it was a lot different from what it is now.
After our meal, we stand up from the table. Carly tried to pay for it, but I refused to let her. It was my treat, seeing as I had invited her.
Getting into the car to go back to school, I had this brilliant idea. Carly knew about Canyon's game and she knew the original version just as well as the original players did. She could be one of the three girls I needed to beat Canyon at his own game.
"Carly, can I ask a favor?" I needed her in this. I was hoping she would say yes. She could be my secret weapon.
"Of course you can." She says, smiling sweetly, pulling out of the parking lot.
"Will you help me beat Canyon at his game? I know Tanner was the creator of the game and he's your brother, but I could use you. Please?" I beg. If I had her, I definitely had a better chance at winning.
"Yes." She says. I was about to beg her more because I expected her to say no, but I stopped when her answer sank in. "Don't look so surprised. I have my reasons for hating this game."
"What are they, if you don't mind me asking?" I honestly though she would be against me trying to beat a player of a game her brother created.
"Our freshman year, which was Tanner's sophomore year, the game got much more intense. The original game was to see who had sex with the most girls by the end of the year. Tanner didn't make it clear that his baby sister was off limits to this game because he had assumed they knew. The other three players were his best friends; Cameron, Ryan, and Jacob. They were all very attractive, but I had always though Cameron was the the hottest. Cameron and I started to spend a lot of time together when Tanner wasn't around. I eventually fell in love with him and I thought he had done the same, seeing as he told me he loved me. One night, Tanner went out to sleep with another girl in his game. I knew he would be awhile, so I invited Cameron over. At first we were just joking around. Then, we started to make out. Things got heated and Cameron ended up taking my virginity. Tanner found out a week later and flipped out on Cameron and he was upset with me for a month. Cameron's and Tanner's friendship was rocky for awhile, but they made up. Because of what happened between me and Cameron, Tanner stopped the game completely." She stopped talking after that. I was in complete shock. I always thought Carly was still a virgin.
"After the game was ended their sophomore year, Canyon and his friends recreated it our sophomore year. They switched the game around and made it their own. In order to win, the girl they chose have to beat the deadline, which puts the game in the girl's hands. I'm in control of this game." I say, smiling so big. Realization hit me, causing my head to spin and my stomach to turn.
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" Carly asks. She must have noticed the color flush from my face.
"I can't win this game. Canyon gave me a task to make him fall in love with me before the end of the year. He has to lose in order for me to beat him. If I lose, then he wins the game. Even though I'm in control of the game, I lose either way. I can't beat him at his own game." i dont want to be in this anymore knowig i can't win. My hands begin to shake as we pull into the school parking lot.
As soon as the car is parked, I jump out and make a run for the front doors. I make it to the bathroom in just a few minutes. I put my hands on the sink to hold myself upright. My head is titled downwards, staring at the sink. I turn the cold water on and splash it on my face. I dry my face with a paper towel and look in the mirror.
"I'm going to find a loop hole and I will win this. I refuse to let Canyon win." I say to myself before walking out and heading to class.
Next period is fifth, which is my art class. We never did much in here, it is practically a free period. I always drew in here to keep myself occupied. I took art lessons when I was younger, so I had a bit of an artistic ability.
Today I decided to draw the cemetery on the other side of town. I used to visit there almost everyday.
I start with the large metal gates with the sharp points o the top. I work my way to the headstones, writing names and dates on them. I put a lot of detail into the tress and flowers that rest next to the headstones.
By time I'm finished, the bell rings signaling to go to the next period. I didn't bring anything to the class except a pencil. I rush to next period and make it a minute before the late bell rings.
The rest of the day flew by, and before I knew it I was changing into my practice uniform for volleyball. I left the locker room to go to the court. I stretch my arms and legs before pracfice starts. I look aroumd me and see Canyon in the stands, smiling at me.
'This is great because I always wanted him to watch me practice.' I think to myself. That was clearly sarcasm.
