"What are you going to do about the whole Canyon situation?" Kylie manages to ask between shoving food in her mouth. She made us fruit parfait a for breakfast this morning. She was always good with food.
I swallow the strawberries I was chewing on. "Tanner."
She has a puzzled look on her face. "What about him?"
I smile mischievously. "I'm going to use him to make Canyon jealous. If I can't have anyone else involved in this pitiful game, than he can't. But if he wants to play games, than I can play them just a much."
She drops her spoon on the table. Her mouth falls open in shock. I knew she definitely wasn't expecting that. I laugh at her expression.
I was driving to Canyon's house when I got a brilliant idea. I unlocked my phone as I sat at the stoplight. I dialed the number I needed to contact this person. He picked up on the second ring.
"What do you need?" He wasn't as rude as it seemed.
"I know I blew you off yesterday. I spent quality time with Kylie. But, I can make it up to you if you meet me at this address." I suggest. He agrees to meet me at Canyon's house. This was ping to be fun.
I hang up the phone and drive the rest of the way to Canyon's house. I need to be there before Tanner. I pulled in the driveway. I locked my car doors as I was walking towards the house. The house is empty. I don't know where Canyon's parents are. He never talks about them.
I threw my car keys on the kitchen counter. I poured two drinks, one for me and one for Tanner. I heard the doorbell ring. I put cups on the counter and sprint for the door.
He smiles sweetly. "Hey."
"Hey. Come on in." I push the door open more.
I walk to the kitchen. I pull myself up to sit on the counter. I offer Tanner his drink. He takes it from my hand and pulls out a chair from the table.
"How is college?" I swallow my soda.
He licks his lips after taking a drink of his soda. "It's not bad; it's actually fun. How is high school? I heard your volleyball team is going to states."
"That's great! school is fine. I try to keep my grades as high as possible. And yes, we are. Saturday is the big game."
"Maintaining your grades shouldn't be too hard for you; you've always been very intelligent." He rises from his seat, leans against the table, and stuffs his hands in his pockets.
I laugh briefly. "It's not that bad. You've always been smart too."
He saunters over to the counter I'm sitting on. "Did you know you look great? You're definitely not little anymore. And you've grown in to your body." He smirks. He places his hands on either side of me.
"Thank you." I mumble as his face comes closer to mine.
"You're very welcome." He says just before his lips connect to mine. The kiss was gentle at first. Then, he pressed his lips to mine slightly harder. I wrapped my arms around his neck to pull him closer.
We broke away from each other slowly. I heard the front door opening. I knew it would be Canyon. I leaped off the counter. I stood casually next to Tanner until Canyon appeared in the doorway. Immediately, he looked at me. I looked anywhere else.
"Who's this?" He asks, pointing to Tanner.
"This is my friend Tanner. Also, an original game player of the original game." I say the last part quietly.
"Actually, the creator of the original game. You recreated my game after I ended it." Tanner cuts in.
"Actually, he was just leaving." I push him towards the front door. This could get ugly if he stayed any longer.
I locked the door behind him. I turned around to Canyon leaning against the wall. We stared at each other before I took a run for the stairs. He was fast behind me. Just as I was about to close his bedroom door, he backs me up against the wall.
"What the hell are you doing, Tyra?" His hands are on each side of my head. His breathing is ragged.
"The same thing you were doing with your slut yesterday." A put on a fake smile.
His facial expression goes from angry to shocked. "I'm the player, you're the accessory to the game."
I laugh haughtily. "If I can't have anyone else involved, neither can you."
He slams his right hand in to the wall. "You're playing a very dangerous game with me."
"I could say the same thing to you." I slip under his hands. I lay on his bed as he stares at me. "Now, I don't know about you, but I'm calling it a day."
He glares at me from the time it takes him to walk to the bed from the wall. He angrily covers himself with the blanket, earning a laugh from me.
I ran through the front door to my house. "Leah!" I screamed repeatedly. I ran up the stairs. I pushed her bedroom door open.
Two men wearing all black had her hands in their grip. She was on her knees in front of a third man. He had a gun in his hand, pointed directly at Leah's head.
"No!" I scream, running towards the man.
Two other large men, dressed just like the other three men, grabbed both of my arms. They held me at least ten get away from the man holding the gun. I screamed, yelled, and begged for them to stop.
"Will somebody shut her up?" The man holding the gun yelled.
One of the men holding me back covered my mouth with their hand. I screamed and screamed, but they were muffled by the hand. Tears were streaming down my face. Leah looked at me. Her eyes were bloodshot. It was clear she was crying, too. Why were these men here? Leah didn't deserve this!
The man with the gun turned back to Leah. He put the gun back to her head. I was struggling to free myself. Nothing seemed to work. They were too strong. The man slowly pulled the trigger. The gun fired, making a loud noise. I just witnessed my aunt being shot.
I woke up drenched in sweat. It was just a dream. It felt so real though. I shook Canyon as hard as I could.
He rolled over, rubbing his eyes to wake himself up. "What is it?" He mumbled.
"I need you to take me to my house." I demand. He looked at me strange. "It's an emergency."
He didn't object. He put his shoes on and drove my back to my house.
I ran through the door shouting for Leah, just like in the dream. I ran up the stairs until I reached her room. I pushed open the door.
She squealed before covering her naked body. Cartwright was laying next to her, covering himself as well.
"I just came to check on you. I had a bad dream. But I can see you're perfectly fine." I started to close the door.
"Tyra!" She yelled. I ran out the house. I wiped the tears that were rimming my eyes.
"We can go back to your house." I tell Canyon. He didn't ask me what happened. He already knew what it is by the look on my face.
The ride was silent just like when we were back in his bed. I curled up in a ball under the covers. Canyon wrapped his arm around me. He pulled my back to his chest. I turned to face him. The tears I had tried to fight back broke through. They spilled down my cheeks. It was like water flowing rapidly if you would demolish the Hoover dam.
He played with my hair to comfort me. He held me tight through the night until I was fast asleep again.
