Beep. Beep. Beep.
I hit the snooze button on my alarm clock. I roll out of bed. I felt horrible today. As much as I want to skip school, I can't. I need to take this test today or I'll forget everything by tomorrow. And I had practice. I couldn't miss that at all.
I slip on a dark pair of skinny jeans and a dark grey sweater along with my grey sequined boots. I pull my hair into a messy bun on the top of my head. Today was not the day to wear makeup.
I walk in to the kitchen. Leah is drinking a cup of coffee. She looks over at me. "Good morning." She smiles faintly. I pretend I can't her her talking. I wasn't ready to talk to her just yet. She lied to me. I know there's a guy she's seeing. There was no need to lie to me about it.
I pour myself a cup of coffee to wake me up more and give me energy. I toast a bagel and top it with cream cheese. I had enough time to eat my bagel and drink my coffee slowly today. I brushed my teeth and walked out the door to my car.
I was just around the block from school when my phone started ringing. "Hello?" I ask, answering it.
"Hey, my car isn't starting. Do you kid picking me up for school today?" Canyon asks through the other end.
I sigh. I was practically at school. I can't let him stay stranded at home. "I'll be there in ten. Be ready."
"Okay, thanks. Bye." He praises. I hang up the phone without replying. I drive as fast as I could to his house. I remembered where it was because of the night at the party.
I lean on my horn to let him know I'm here. His front door opens and closes quickly. He sprints to my car and jumps in to the passenger seat. I pull out of his driveway and drive to school for the second time today.
"You look comfortable." He smirks over at me. I shoot him a look. "Okay, sorry." He throws his hands up in defense.
"Why isn't your car starting?" I turn in to the school parking lot.
"I don't know. I didn't figure that out considering I had ten minutes to be here." He says sarcastically.
We get out of the car. I grab my gym bag for practice. "Don't be a smart ass."
We walk side by side across the parking lot and in the school. "What's wrong with you today?" He has this worried look on his face.
I sigh, adjusting my gym bag on my shoulder. "I had a fight with my aunt. The night you stayed over he didn't come home. I know there's a guy, but she lied to me about it."
He leans up against the lockers next to mine. "Maybe she's telling the truth. She could have been at work over night and fell asleep in her office." He suggests.
I slam my locker door after I get my books. I am definitely pissed that he's taking her side. "I'm not stupid. I know she has a boyfriend. Don't take her side, Canyon." I storm off down the hall to class.
Fourth period came around an I wasn't happy about it. Canyon sits by me every day in a seat that isn't his. Frankly, I didn't want to deal with him today. I didn't want to deal with anyone, actually. Kylie has gone MIA, which pisses me off. It's great that she's doing her part of the plan, but she doesn't need to be shoved up Miles's ass all the time. She going to develop feelings for him and destroy the whole thing.
Canyon takes Ryland's seat next to me. Why can't he sit in his assigned seat like everybody else? Does he think he's someone special? It's completely unfair that he can do anything he wants because he's popular.
"Today we're going to be working on our projects. Get in your groups and discuss topics to write your paper about." She sits in her seat.
I groan because Canyon decided for himself that we're going to be partners. What a joy. He slides his seat to my desk.
"I'm sorry I took your aunt's side. She's a grown woman though. She can do whatever she pleases." He tilts his head and looks at me.
"I just want to work on this project."
"Okay." He mumbles. I don't reply to him. I just write the paper. I already knew what I was writing about. I didn't need his help. He wouldn't bother to do anything anyways.
The bing rings, signaling we're free to go to lunch. I grab my books and walk to the cafeteria. I was the first person at my lunch table. I didn't want to eat because I wasn't hungry. Everybody else sat at their seat, just like yesterday.
They whole table had their conversation while I sat there silent the whole time. Talking would cause me to have and attitude and snap at people that didn't deserve it. I got tired of sitting at the table. I left the cafeteria and walked down the hall. I made the decision to walk around the building to waste some spare time.
I turned the corner and bumped into a tall guy with a decently muscular chest. I looked up to see the one I'd been waiting to run into. It was Cameron. This could get complicated for Carly.
"Hey, Tyra. It's been awhile." He smiles sweetly. "You look great." He compliments.
"Hey, Cameron." I take a step back and throw out my hands in fake surprise. "You look good, too. What are you doing here? In school, I mean."
He holds papers up. "I'm here to turn in some paperwork for my student teacher assignment. I'm teaching Mr. Ferguson's third period junior chemistry class."
My stomach lurches. That's Carly's class. "I see. Well, I'm in a bit of a rush. I'll see you around." I turn back the way I came from and headed for the cafeteria. I have to tell Carly before she sees him.
I wave in the doorway of the cafeteria, shouting Carly name. I catch her attention immediately. I signal for her near me. She rises from the table and walks my way.
"What's up?" She asks.
I sigh. "Cameron is in town. I just ran into him. He's also going to be your student teacher for Mr. Ferguson's class."
Her lips thin out and her face goes pale. My heart twinges with a little pain. I knew this would be harder than we all thought. I don't know what I would do if HE came home for college and was my student teacher. I wouldn't know what to do. Let's just hope I don't see him if he's in town.
