Julie was sat in a little coffee shop called The Vintage Flavor, a coffee shop often visited by Julie, Penny and Matthew in casual occurrences such as study dates and after school hang-outs.
Today however, as Julie was leaned against the wooden carved table, tapping impatiently against the screen of her phone, she wondered what was such an emergency to Penny that it was so necessarily important to interrupt her daily habit of staring blankly at the ceiling as she contemplated on the mysteries of life.
A few passing minutes later amidst the savoring smell of warm apple pie that Julie has previously ordered and a hot mug of coffee, she saw her friend entering the cafe, an excited yet worrying expression traced onto Penny's face.
She gave Penny an exasperated breath of air. "Finally you're here." Julie rolled her eyes at Penny, who sat directly in front of her with her legs crossed and her arms onto her sides.
"Yeah yeah, sorry. Anyway you're probably wondering what my emergency is about." Penny said, glancing at the wall clock behind her chair before turning her eyes back at Julie.
"Well I didn't exactly rush all the way here for nothing, what's all this about?" Julie asked, taking a bite out of the slice of pie.
"Dont get mad okay.." Penny started, moving her chair considerably closer to Julie's. "But I sorta set you up on a blind date."
Julie stopped enjoying her pie. It felt like she stopped enjoying her day too.
"What in the world have you done, Penny?" Julie said in a calm voice, although internally she was attacked with several different emotions, panic however was the most prominent of them all.
"Hear me out, okay.." Penny said in an equally calm tone, although she knew her friend well, and Julie wasn't the type who'd typically agree on dates. "After what you told me yesterday, I just couldn't get it out of my head that maybe, in some way I had something to do with what you're feeling right now"
"And it so happened that I knew a guy who was so much like you, and he's caring, he's good looking, basically everything you'd want in a guy." She further explained. "So I thought the quickest and fastest way to get over that heart break of yours is to solve it by none other than sweet, tender romance."
"I-" Julie was in loss of words. She has never been in a position like this, and has never thought she'd be in a position like this. "I really don't know about this, Penny." Julie replied.
She really didn't want to be in this situation, but something about it seemed so reasonable, how Penny's reasons actually made sense.
In some way however, she couldn't shake off the fact how it was like betraying her feelings for Matthew, and using someone else's for the sake of hers.
It probably wont get that far. A voice said in Julie's head. You wont have anything to lose anyway if you agree to this.
"Please.." Penny begged Julie "If you cant do this for yourself, please just do it for me. My conscience wont rest until I've done something to help you."
Julie gave Penny a reluctant look. Julie knows Penny had all the right intentions, even the right reasoning, but she knew what she wanted to do, and obviously this was one of the things she didn't want to do.
Julie looked at Penny's desperate stare before groaning. "Ugh fine I'll agree to this, but if today turns out to be a disaster I wont have a second thought but to just decline whatever the hell is going on."
Penny gave her an excited smile, followed by an equally excited squeal. "Im in luck then because I know today will be one of the greatest dates you'll ever have."
It was as if someone from above heard their conversation, because a second after a boy on his phone entered the cafe. A considerably gorgeous boy, Julie noticed.
Penny turned around. "Hey you're here!" This caught the boy's attention. He grinned at her, a shining white smile before approaching their table.
"Alive and breathing, thats me." The boy chuckled.
Penny gave Julie a knowing look, which she exchanged with a nervous one. "Lets cut to the introductions, this right here is my lovely friend Julie."
The boy then turned his attention towards her, the same bright beautiful smile and bright blue eyes. "You're Julie?" He said, "The one Penny wont stop talking about?"
"That would be me, I guess." Julie nodded her head, letting out a nervous laugh. "And you are?"
His smile widened, the same smile that probably sent all the girls swooning for him.
"Its a pleasure to meet you." He said, "Im Noah."
