A canyon. About 300 feet wide, and I don't even know how many feet long. I skidded to a stop, yelping when my injured paw hit a stone. I stepped back a few feet so there was no chance of falling. I could still hear my mother calling for me. There was no chance of escape.
Why are you doing this, Lilli? I thought to myself. You're running away from your own family! Somehow, it felt like it was different, though.
As my mother came charging through the woods to find me, something came over me like a tidal wave on a beach. It felt like I did not belong here. Like I didn't belong with my mother.
Wherever I belonged, it seemed that I could get there by going over that canyon.
"Lilli, don't run over! Stay there! Don't you dare try to jump or you'll die!"
I was about to tell my Mother that I wasn't going to jump, mainly because that was idiotic, when that panic came back. It was fight or flight now, and I think I quite literally chose the second one. I spread out my wings, took one huge leap, and.....
"AAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!"
Wait, WHAT!? I'm a wolf by the way, so yeah. Wings weren't exactly normal. Anyway, I was so shocked that my wings just stuck straight out. I think it's called gliding. When I finally landed at the other side, I thought to myself, WINGS! I had just been gliding on my own WINGS!
I tried to calm myself down after all that excitement. I realized that my mother probably thought I was dead, since I dipped down into the canyon before actually came back up. It's really foggy on this side, so Mother couldn't of seen me land safely, if you would even call what I did "safe." If I found a way to get back to my own home, she would think I was a ghost and totally go insane.
