"I'm Lilli. Not that it really matters what my name is. Beside that, what is WRONG with your fur?"
"My fur has nothing wrong with it," Grasshopper replied quickly. "I just haven't found a way to shower in a while. Plus, the moss helps protect me from the rain."
Yeah, I bet they get HUGE downpours here in THIS desert, I sarcastically thought to myself. Instead, I decided to retort another way.
"Grasshopper? That's quite an odd name, don't you think? Is that your real name?"
"My name isn't HALF as weird as yours. what IS a LILLI?"
Ok, now I was really lost. Grasshopper was probably just trying to have a conversation with me, and I had started to question her about everything. The thought of it made me feel pretty bad about myself.
I stayed silent for probably about another 4 minutes or so, but Grasshopper waited for my response the entire time. I wanted to find a way to start over, tell her that I really am not a bad wolf. I suspected it was too late anyway, but gave it a shot just for the heck of it.
"I think that a Lilli is a flower. Anyway, I'm sorry that I got all in your face. I promise, I'm not as bad a wolf as I seem. I don't know what came over me." I said, sounding a bit unconfident.
"It's ok. Something came over me, too. I think we were just both afraid of each other at first. Now we know each other, so there is no reason to be afraid. All is forgiven."
And, with those last 3 words, a new friendship started.
