Before I start I just want to say read the prolgue it didn't add everything before so i added it. Now it's finished. Go read it!
When I woke up the next morning, Grasshopper wasn't there. I looked around frantically, trying to find her, but I had no luck. After a little while, though, I heard something in a nearby tree. I looked up, only to find Hops SITTING in it!
"Hey, Lil! Wanna come up?" she asked.
"No, thanks. I'm not really good at climbing." I replied.
Soon, she came down with some weird brown balls. She said that they were called "coconuts", and even let me try one. They were surprisingly good. She said that we would need them for our trip.
"What do you mean, 'trip'?" I asked, unsure.
"We're gettin' outta this place! I think I know a way out. We need enough resources for the trip, though."
YES!! I knew that Hops had figured a way out of here! Now I just had to follow her all the way to freedom. I wondered how she got here in the first place, but there was no time for silly questions. She knew a way out of this awful desert! That was all that mattered right now.
I helped Hops pick berries and sew blankets out of dead tree roots. I never said they were supposed to be COMFORTABLE blankets, but it's the best I could get. It was when I was struggling to reach some berries on a high branch that I remembered something. I had never told Hops about my wings.
I had been keeping my wings right on my back this entire time. How did Hops not see my huge WINGS?! I looked back for my wings, but they were GONE! I almost screamed. I tried moving my wings, though, and it worked. Somehow, my wings can blend so perfectly in with my fur that they are virtually invisible, which is quite handy in my case.
Without thinking, I looked over at that tree. I HAD been trying to get those berries. Hops wasn't even looking my way. If I was quick about it, I could get to the berries in time........... No, she will see you. She'll see you and totally freak out. It WAS true, though. Hops wouldn't hear it if I just flew up and got the berries. Soon, I saw Grasshopper turn away to pack up some things in a makeshift bag.
I knew this was my chance.
"This is crazy." I thought out loud, but not loud enough so Hops could hear me. This wasn't even a big deal. All I had to do was open my wings and flap. I finally did it. It felt unusually natural. I just glided up. When I got to the top, I started picking out the freshest, ripest berries. I still had my wings out, by the way, so yeah. That. I had just gotten done with about a quarter of the tree
when something caught me off guard.Vote
